Call of Duty 2

I beat this game in about 2 days of moderate playing on the second level of difficulty. I was amazed at how much fun I had. I beat Doom but I almost hated playing it. I really didn't care what happened in Doom either. In CoD 2 I love the WW2 story and action. I picked up an xfi soundcard and some logitech X530 speakers that are 5.1 so it sounds like a warzone here.

I bumped up the difficulty and made it through most of the Brittish campaign so far. I seem to have gotten stuck where the mission starts in the city when you're on the 2nd floor of a house using an Mg42. You get on the halftrack with the captain driving and it's all pie until I turn the corner to find 2 guys with anti-tank weapons on the roof, 2 more on the ground and a tank facing me also where the captain stalls the halftrack. I've ran it about 50 times and I've killed all 4 of the ground troops since they generally shoot first and 1 shot you're dead... I use the german machine gun with 32 rounds here because as you make the turn the turret gets turned and aiming it is near impossible. I can sometimes take out the 4 ground troops but I never get a chance to swing the turret around before the tank fires also. Anyone have any insight into this part of the game on the 3rd highest difficulty level? On the second highest difficulty level I pwnd it pretty easy since the ground troops don't fire near as quickly but this level is much more difficult.

The best thing about vetern is you never run out of grenades, because EVERY SINGLE GOD DAMN NAZI HAS THEM AND THROWS THEM.

Its kind of sureal to be in the middle of a firefight and have no less than 5 grenades land at your feet.

Heh Point Du Hoc on Veteran = wtf.

As for nades, the main thing I hate about COD2 is that you can't toss the nades back. That's such bullshit.

One of my favorite things in Day of Defeat: Source, besides MG camping, is getting a kill with the guy's own grenade.

This game is awesome, I loved every second of it.

The way they handled health should be the norm for fps'.

Isn't Halo the first to introduce this concept with their shield system? (You did not actually lose health til you were out of shields, yet shields recharged when you stopped fighting). In this game they replace shields with health and if you run out of health you are dead.

This is the next evolution so to speak. No health bar at all. Your screen flashes red, you grunt in pain. The more you're hurt, the redder your screen and the more your aim gets thrown off. Your 'health' regens back up to full in seconds, much quicker than Halo's shields. I don't consider it a health mechanic so much as a warning.

WARNING: You are getting SHOT AT, GET THE FUCK BACK IN COVER.

If you ignore the warning you will most likely be seeing those god damn stale quotes you've been reading since CoD1. More than enough punishment right there.

The best mission is "Retreat? We're advancing in the other direction!" This game is great at ramping up the intensity to near panic levels as wave after wave of germans force you back, and just as your on your last leg, all your friends are dead, and you're on your last clip, the calvary arrives and saves the day.

I hated this mechanism, and a step down from call of duty 1. Just one design decision I really disagreed with, that ended up with me thinking the sequel was worse than the original especially in terms of the multiplayer. Single player it was fine.

I loved that map where you're running back to the beach.. so much fun holding the trench line from waves of Germans

I remember playing COD1 on the highest difficulty... no health packs. I don't know how many times I had to play to get through the entire game without getting hit... but I learned to appreciate a lot

autosave and autoload for the win on that hardest mode for cod1. ;p
sucked sometimes when I hit autosave a bit too fast like half a second before I am dead. Have to autoload about 100 times before that bullet somehow misses ^^

Hehe Kiely that happened to me to...a lot. And ever more in United Offensive. But I loved quicksave anyways, it helps in all games.

So you hate the fact there is a new health system, but you liked the fact you had to find healthpacks and autosave/autoload a shitload of times? You take the cake man.

Reread what I said, I said it was fine in single player. But I said that the area it really hurt the game was the multiplayer which has nothing to do with healthpacks and autosave/autoload.

The fact that you can regen health turned the game from a slower paced multiplayer game to one in which people charge with a shotgun(another bad addition to MP). It is easy to see the effect because they have the same maps for MP as CoD1, so see the difference in how they are played for yourself.
