UO Redemption: Pre Tramel-Bullshit Server

Was tough to decide whether to post this here or MMO general, but figured this would get more to the target.

Uo Redemption is a free server that runs mostly according to the classic uo rules / coding. If you miss the good days of actual skilled and *fun* pvp, this is a good place to find it. Has a very big player base for a free server, and increased skill gain for first 2 weeks of account creation so it's easy to start up.

Just go to www.uoredemption.com for information, and if you see me in game say hi

There are a plethora of professional player run shards... and by plethora I mean a shit load. This is not even remotely new if you were to invent a time machine and travel back in time a few years to make this post. Not only that, but being a former UO shard aficionado, UO Redemption isn't even that great of a shard. So why would you want to recommend it to a forum dedicated to MMORPG uber geeks?

^ recomend a good UO emu shard.

Part of me wants to get back into UO, but every time I load it up again - I just cant get into it.

I loved the game so much when I played it, it bugs me that I cant get back into it.

NoStem: No there is not a plethora(just say a lot, dont try and sound smart jackass) of good pre-UO:r shards. I have played on most of the classic shards and UO:Redemption is by far the best.

Most servers allow you to get special neon-dildos for donating. Or some even give an advantage to players who pay for it. That shit is bogus. More so, you cant EZ-UO your way to win on UO:R.

So. Give us an example of even ONE shard that is close to as good and legitly run as UO:R and then start talking. until then shut your mouth and don't bad-talk shit you dont know about.

UO is hard to get back into. Especially when you have to create a char on a server that does not give accelerator skill gains (it still takes awhile to gain skill even with the slight increase for the first 2 weeks). The hardest part is sucking it up and completing your character. Unfortunately the fun doesnt start there. The style of play that a pre-ren shard requires is not fun if you are alone. So gaining friends/a guild is also very critical.

After you get a good guild going that has decent players the shard is a ton of fun. Unfortunately most of the guys i played Pre-ren with quit when the last freeshard(IPY) went down. It sucks rebuilding, and thats probably why I have not been on UO:R as much as I would like.

UO is probably the only MMORPG I've ever enjoyed playing solo.

The vararity of hunting tactics that you could employ and the number of areas you could go with a well-made PvE template made the game fun for me. I'm not a big fan of actually fighting in PvP, but loved the element it added to the game.

Even when UO added Trammel, I'd stick in the PvP lands, even though I did PvE 99% of the time.

I started playing UO post trammel, after I had played EQ for a few years. The PVP lands were so desolate by that time, that you could wander around without a care in the world.

I already said I haven't been playing on player run shards lately, and from looking at that site it looked like shit compared to TAR or Santiago, which were the two pretty standard ones for years.

lol yep, which is what made it so great for PvE for me I'd rather deal with the odd PK once in a blue moon, then having to camp-fight with 10 other people at any spot worth hunting at.

Goto Destard in Fel, and I'd have the entire dungeon to myself
Goto Destard in Tram, and I'd have to compete with atleast 5 other people minimum.

Sure, once in a blue moon a red would show up, very rarely would they actually attack me, and in the off chance they did attack me - escaping was easy enough if you knew what you were doing.

Remeber this ass-hat tamer PK tried to kill me with a hord of dragons, he kept paralyizng me and telling his pets to attack, I'd just peacekeep. I toyed with him for a bit, then opened a trapped chest to break para and recalled out after :P

Short of falling victem to a gang-rape, it was very easy to escape a PK attack.

I don't think there are actually that many player run shards, let alone pre-uor ones, with a population as large as UO:R. I don't see why the fact that something not being remotely new matters, as it is probably safe to say that not every single person knows of this specific shard. It's ridiculous to think that just because something isn't new it should be considered a flaw to mention it, especially considering this specific thing is still actively changing and growing. Not to mention something being old is just an observable fact, it really doesn't have any direct correlation to the quality of a product. (I can point out that a bike is red, but that won't really help you conclude anything else about it.)

I have also been playing UO on and off since release (a significant chunk of my life), and UO:R is one of the better free shards that can be found... Mainly thanks to GM's who care more about the game its self rather than profit or fame.

The reason I recommend it to a forum of MMORPG uber geeks is obviously to try and help the player base for a shard I enjoy playing on (although I don't have much time to play these days ) grow.

I will admit I have never actually looked at the site (apart from the forums), being that I joined the shard on my friend's request rather than my own research, so I suppose I don't really have anything to say in response to that, I just expected people to go there for the server IP etc.

But next time you feel like criticizing someone's choice to promote their server, atleast have the decency to offer a valid arguement (or maybe a counter of an active shard that you find to be better).

Sorry to bump this back up. I'd like to get back into vendoring on one of these pvp-oriented shards. However, I don't want to spend endless hours trying to make some money so I can work a few crucial skills up.

Anyone playing on one of these servers that wouldn't mind tossing me a few thousand gold? Thanks!
