[Valve] Steam & the military I know this is probably something that has been discussed to death in other venues but I haven't seen anything on it. I'm in the military and deploy relatively often (relative to you, I mean). It's kind of a piss-off to me that I can't play a game I paid 60 bucks for (then 20 for DOD:S) any time I want, but only when I have internet access. My job description means when I deploy I will have spotty internet access. Is there a workaround/crack for Steam, or any legal/Valve-sanctioned way of playing HL2 without being shackled to Steam?

http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-...p_sid=8QiJKORh If that doesn't work, you could DL the Vengeance release of the game + updates 1-5 from somewhere. Unfortunately, it's too complicated a crack to be found at gamecopyworld or similar sites...I've never actually seen their crack posted separate from the full 2.5GB dvd. You'd have to reinstall when you wanted to go back to playing online again too. Last edited by Vorph : 10-11-2005 at 07:01 PM.

Actually, about half the time I am able to play in offline mode. I take my laptop to work sometimes and play HL2 or CS:Source with bots in offlines mode, though on some days it just don't want to let me play without a connection.
