Me and my roommates here are pretty obsessive about Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge. Burnout 3 had a bit higher replay value but both games are fun as hell.

My personal favorite has got to be Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition. Super fast, awesome cars, great soundtrack...just a great game all around.

Forza is fun, I was hoping for something a little more difficult/realistic since it was to up what tourismo's had done. Being able to actually WRECK the car would be nice. Nfs porsche challenge for pc is still a favorite.

Collin mcrae rally 04 is really good and borderline impossible on realistic settings.

I think Forza's pretty realistic in most respects. The driving physics seem to be damn near perfect. For example, the Tokyo course near the end of the lap there's that spot with an S-turn that you can actually more or less go balls out through, if you're setup right and have big balls. Quite often I'd hit the rumble strip on one wall or the other, and depending on the car I'd end up on two wheels for a good second or two. If you peg the throttle while up on two wheels, the car dives to the side with two wheels in the air quite realistically, as it should. There's tons of other examples like that.

Vehicle damage is pretty good in it, it's not great. While you can't completely disable the vehicle, and the cars are pretty unrealistically tough, if you hit a wall hard enough your car will basically be undriveable, at least at a reasonable pace. There's at least consequences to damaging your car, other than losing 7% of your purse or whatever. If you damage your car early in a race that was challenging with a perfect car, you're pretty much screwed. And even minor things like damaging a side skirt or front dam can have a pretty big affect on top-end acceleration and speed.

yeah my comment was pretty broad, the physics are dead on atleast for the mr2. I really couldnt believe how closely they captured its handling. The damage models are all right but they are a bit too forgiving for my taste /shrug. Everything you have said is pretty accurate imo.

Infact forza is one of the better/best "sim" racing games out right now from top to bottom, my complaints are petty nit picking.

Sega gt for dreamcast still has THE best tuning setup, if they could combine that and nfs underground2's dyno/tuning options it would be fantastic.

GTR by SimBin is simply the best racing sim to-date. Force Wheel is a must have.

Not sure if it is in the same type of racing game you want, but Project Gotham Racing 3 on the Xbox360 is kicking some major ass... all night long, I'm up playing that. It's more or a realistic game though, all about racing power cars like Lotus' and Ferrari and such, the only thing that's not realistic is that you don't destroy your car when you crash. So no, it doesn't have a firearm, it just has these: Action Bills.

The burnout games are good fun.

Gran Turismo is fun when I feel like building and buying a car. I wish Forza Motorsport was available on ps2, I hear great things about it.

My input from "Best Racing Games" thread.
Quote:
I am going to have to say that
Burnout 3 is the most fun,
Mario Kart 64 is the best multiplayer racer,
Road Rash is the best motorcycle racer,
FlatOut is the best off-road/stunt racer,
and NFS: MW is the best tuner/pursuit racer.

Diddy Kong Racing gets a very honorable mention.

Edit: Almost forgot Whiplash (aka. Fatal Racing [EU]). Best overall PC racer to date. This one deserves a serious re-make.

Saw about that at PA, after I had filed the thought of downloading the game away. Decided not to even bother downloading it because of that shit.
