On the XBOX version, I just maxed out some AOE fire skill that I could just spam non-stop. By the end, I'd just run around in cirlces to get as many monsters near me as possible and start spamming it - too easy.

Here is everything that was wrong with Fable

1) Equipment only mattered for attractiveness. Same with tattoos etc. Basically it was about how the "upgrades" appealed to you visually, and adjustment of the reaction NPC's gave you....which still didn't matter really. No resists, no *actual* stat boosts, your full plate mail was functionally as effective as a tablecloth would be.

2) Storyline is garbage. I can suffer with predictable storylines, but there isn't much interaction. Even in most games with predictable storylines, if nothing else npcs would talk to you. In this game, the best you hope for is 5 word max answers if you fart in the general direction of NPCs, oh and if you an especially good hero, you can listen to yay spam as they sing your praises in 5 words or less. Considering how inane the chatter is by NPCs, I was thankful your character was silent the entire time.

3) While the exp gaining system was actually pretty good (besides bows being incredibly impractical to use), there were so few skills and they were so easy to max out, it was next to impossible to not build your character to have absolutely everything.

4) Brainless AI and easily exploitable skills. Mana shield is stupid good. Just mash attack and you really can't die.

This game was awful. I pity anyone who actually had to pay money for either version.

It was such a smooth, polished game.. but there was so little content to it. It had broken mechanics, but it was fun to play. However, I swear to you I beat that shit completely within 24 hrs. I'm not even a hardcore console gamer anymore. I happened to have that day off and played around 12 hrs total and beat the whole damn thing.

Could have been a GREAT game if only for a few same problems. Needed to cap your skills so you couldn't just sit and farm to get all the skills. I had the epitome of a tank mage (actually, that's what the game called me.. battle mage I think). I'd use slow time and go matrix style on everything, pulling off insane combos while they were all slowed. If I wanted to mix it up, I'd throw on the shield and try to pull off the same combos in real time.

Also, they should have thrown in some kind of 2player vs mode in the arena, or after you beat the game it unlocks 'arena mode' where you can pick and fight any of the bosses in the game. Those were always the most interesting fights. Scale the difficulty and start throwing in multiple bosses/mobs. That wouldn't have taken much programming and added 1000x more replayability. Arena was the most entertaining part of the entire game.

All you really needed to do was max that one skill where you sprinted through the guy and spun around and slashed him for ridiculous damage. Just repeat that ad infinitum and hooray for you, game over.

The problem is, Fable was not meant to be a good RPG. It was meant to be this really great world simulator where ti all changed according to your actions through the game, all that mumbo jumbo bullshit that has resulted in most of Molyneux's more recent games turning into complete fucking messes. So they had all these grand ideas for the world and how you interact with it, the gameplay itself, the RPG side of things, was completely secondary.

Problem is, most of the goals on the world simulation aspect ended up being unachievable altogether, or simply not possible given their time restraints. So they chopped and whittled them all down until they had something manageable. Problem is, they were left with a hollow, mediocre RPG with nice production values.

I figured that out in the first 10mins =( I was like "Did they even test this?" As I've got a 35 exp modifier going =/

Defintely a fun game and tracking down silver keys to get the legendary items has kept me busy and stopped me from completing it too quickly. Albeit bows being highly impratical, they are fun when you get enough accuracy going.. you can basically decapitate 5-6 mobs before they even make it near you (That's with one of the legendary bows though). Though it only seems to work with humans =/

You could decapitate people by shooting an arrow into their face.

Anyways for those who are interested, the game has been extended in the PC version.. after I beat Jack I got an invitation to the northren wastes to fight the summoners (Haven't progressed farther than that yet).

So indeed the game has been extended in the PC version.
