| Thinking of Playing EVE - General question After spending about 3 days reading up on the game, I signed up for the free trial tonight. I understand that 14 days is like nothing for a game of this magnatude, but I figured if I could at least get some feel for it, why not. Anyway, general question to anyone who's played for a while - after all is said and done, does everything amount to either being pro-pirate or anti-pirate? I get the whole concept of the timesink and complexity involved, and I'm actually into that kinda' thing, I guess. I just don't want to be completely disappointed a year or two down the road when it seems like every advancement I make is in reaction to piracy instead of something somewhat interesting and evolutionary in the game world. By the way, if I'm buying too much into the CCP, "free-game-world-for-dreamers-and-innovators" concept, let me know. |

+2 Internets | Eve is a boring game. I mean, unless you are a code of some type, that is. I played off and on for about four months, going anti-pirate, mining, missioning, etc... . My conclusion is that the time I spent in game would have been better spent drawing continuous circles on an etch-a-sketch: there was no real fulfillment to be found, at all. If you attend Star Trek conventions and have a Firefly screensaver, or have dressed up as an Everquest character for halloween, you might enjoy this. Otherwise waste your time at something *fun*, like hot sex. With women. Ta,

| the politics is fantastic. you really need to join an alliance with some drama to keep things interesting. before i stopped playing (a while ago now) my whole alliance was at war with a bunch of other alliances with raids and all sorts of chaos going on. i checked in 2 months ago to find my alliance (xetic) has disintegrated and the galaxy map which was stagnant for the months i was playing has completely changed. i am thinking of re-signing. current galactic map - http://www.eve-files.com/media/corp/CRII/Latest.jpg thread with links to old maps to see how its all changed http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingamebo...hreadID=201323 a few new expansions have bought in a lot of player made facilities and new ship types which seems to have shaken up ship combat a bit. some of the mercenary corps look like fun as well, alliances actually pay for their services. if you go solo you'll get bored, but if you join a corp and get involved in some alliance based galactic drama you'll have plenty to do. |

+19 Internets | I wouldn't say it's so much pirates and anti-pirates, it's different factions/alliances vs. each other, fighting over territory. And yeah, the politics are pretty interesting. Personally I've played the game on and off since release, and while I like the general idea and concept, the gameplay itself can be quite boring sometimes. And due to the open endedness, it can be difficult to figure out how to even get into a larger corp that's involved in the "end game" territorial conquest type stuff. |

| The gameplay is excruciatingly boring, at least it was for me. In order to make money during low levels, you know to buy shit? Was warping around the fucking universe on autopilot picking up shit and delivering it. So I sat there in front of my screen looking at my ship warping, and warping, sometimes like 5-7 jumps to get somwhere. all on autopilot. /yawn GAY

+19 Internets | See, that's the thing though, the game is so open ended that most people who play it find a single avenue to make money, figure it's the only way, repeat it non-stop and then say the game sucks and it's boring. You realize you could have been hunting NPC rats? You realize that you could have been doing mining, whether by yourself or with other people to exponentially increase profits? You realize you could have been doing complexes? You realize you could have gotten a different mission agent that didn't just give you courier missions (hint: you want a security agent if you want to blow shit up). Eve's totally different than most of the MMORPG's people have played in the past, and it actively punishes people in a lot of ways if they try to play it like they've played other games in the past. |

| It's a very well done game and when I quit WoW I started fooling around with it with a few friends who had long quit WoW due to having their first child. I find it to be entertaining and adictive, though I 100% know that it can be taken as a huge boring waste of time if you can't climb over the massive amount of information you have to learn to really know what you're doing. I kind of dig it however, because I play it like a single player game with a chat room, and just do security missions and keeping following the carrot of a newer better ship for harder and harder missions. I don't plan on going crazy into PVP or probobly even ever joining a Corporation (guild), I just want to have fun for a few months until I find something else to do. Also FYI, I hate star wars and was never really a fan of future based sci-fi spaced themed games at all. |

| Thanks for the feedback. It's good to see that the galaxy-control aspect is ever evolving. That's a good sign that the game is flourishing, especially in a pvp and corp vs. corp aspect. Territorial conquest isn't something that I've found too interesting in most other games (mostly because it doesn't exist.) Territorial conquest for a cause makes it even better. It's also good to hear that the politics and drama make for an entertaining multi-player environment. I'm not too worried about "make me the best right now" gameplay, and actually welcome the ability to contribute on a large-scale level to a common goal. Sounds like the game is just boring and involved enough to try for a while. I guess I'll give it a shot. |

+2 Internets | Just to follow up - I was in a lead corporation, had numerous top-level ships, and also had heavy experience running the solo game. It's not that the game isn't fun at times, it's just boring as hell, on the whole. But I'm tired of explaining that, give it a shot. Go ahead. ... ![]()

+9 Internets | I've never played it but from what I know of it, it reminds me of the shareware game Escape Velocity gone MMO. I was totally hooked on that game. Anyone played EV and know how it compares to EVE? |
