Apparently a never released Shadow Warrior expansion was found on a shelf and 3D Realms has released it for free (if you have the original game).

I'd like to someday read the story about 3-D realms, about why they couldn't finish Duke Nukem Forever and capitalize on a good license.

Uhhh I think the game is technically STILL in development, it isn't dead yet...although it should be

As for DN4Ever...IMO the main problem for them was when development was started, just a little before Unreal was released. They went through a ton of engine changes. The last engine I ever saw images for was a modified UT engine. It looked really great for the time, but it would seem quaint compared to stuff like HL2 and D3 at least in terms of visual quality. I'd love to see DN on the source engine personally
