| Injecting Some Fun Into Doom 3 I've been playing a few Doom 3 mods lately that I wanted to share since they have been monumentally more satisfying than the out of the box Doom 3 experience. The first is called Classic Doom. http://cdoom.d3files.com/home.php It is essentially a remake of Knee-Deep In The Dead from Doom 1, complete with weapon overhaul and no reloading. They are about halfway done with it, so there are approximately 5 levels to play now. Didn't notice any bugs playing through it, though try as I might I could not get to the secret stage Military Base (might not be in yet). Here is an example of how it looks, doom fans out there should recognize this as about the second room of the game: The second is inventively called Doom II for Doom 3. http://disposableheroes.planetdoom.g....com/doom2.htm Predictably, it is basically a level port of Doom II to Doom 3, though I've noticed it's much harder on max difficulty than Doom II was (Ultra). It's completed to 10 levels right now, and has some extra like an old school interface and score tallies by level. Here's the updated look of that great stage Dead Simple: ![]() Ironic that ID could've probably just recreated their old levels for Doom 3, which I assume would have taken less effort, and probably had a game on their hands more fun than what they released. Edit: If you try the Doom II mod, you will need to type this in the console each time you play in order to bind your right click to use, which isn't a function in Doom 3: bind mouse2 _impulse21 This is not listed in the readme as claimed on the site. | There is no internets | I would think that if Id wanted/need the money they could just have remade Doom 1/2 with the Doom 3 engine and been swimming in the sales revenue. Be that as it may I was one of the few (if not the only) to be stubborn enough to finish Doom 3. A lot of my friends said they got bored approximaitely less than halfway through the game and ended up quitting the game. Relegating the box to collect dust on the shelf. Anywho I may dust off Doom 3 and download this mod. I would love to see Doom 1 and 2 redone in the Doom 3 engine.

| Doom 3 was good, and very scary in my opinion (not as much as Silent Hill but it's definately up there). My only problem (though it made it scarier) was the fact you could not have both your flashlight AND a weapon at the same time. It was either SEE or SHOOT. At least I could use my flashlight to encave zombie skulls. |

+29 Internets | I still haven't finished the game because I get too uptight while playing it. Make fun of me if you want, but for some reason I can't play it for more than 20 minutes at a time w/o my gut curling up into a little ball. And that was on a 19" monitor. Now that my computer's hooked up to a 106" projector and surround sound system, the game is fucking terrifying. The gameplay itself is merely okay, nowhere near as good as HL2 (only other recent FPS I've played). |

The end is one of the more creepier things around though. I do wish you could spend more time in 'hell'. Kind of like I wish you could spend more time in Xen in halflife.

Fear is a great part of these games, it makes them immersive; naturally, overriding your fear is going to remove some of your immersion while playing. It's too bad they chose to substitute 'Darkness, crap two imps!' oh-shit moments for 'Wall drops behind you with 50 monsters!' oh-shit moments, also a mistake. Edit: I'm no Doom 3 hater, either, I have cleared the whole game and Resurrection of Evil each once on the highest initially selectable difficulty, as well as playing through many of the more fun sections of the game (Read: Hell) repeatedly. | i seriously sigh irl everytime someone uses that arguement about the flashlight in doom3. was i the only person who discovered the quick toggle for flashlight/lastweapon? I had 0 problems in doom3 with the darkness, and infact i kind of liked that feature. pussies. |

| I'm pretty sure he was referring to the spending more time in Xen (in Half-Life 1) comment. Of course everyone wants to spend more time in Hell in a doom game. Who the fuck cares about some dark, corridor-filled space complex? The Xen comment, I can agree with though. Why would you want to spend more time in that area? In my personal opinion, Half-Life rocked all the way up until teleporting to Xen where it became extremely unfun to me. |
