Best Shareware game available

http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/

Its game called Escape Velocity Nova. I remember back in High school I used to play the original on a Mac at a friends house after school. This game was so much fun. You start out with a simple Star Trek like shuttle and do missions and trade routes for cash. Get cash, get better ships and upgrades. Really open ended too.

There are 6 possible storylines to follow, each one following one of the factions involved in the game. Though I will admit that Im still not sure how you end up getting a particular one. Each storyline is random through the game depending on some choices you make. ALthough there are no movies in this game other than the gambling video's it has a very deep story line to follow for each faction. Federation, Auroran, Polaris, Rebellion, Vello-Os, and Pirates. As well as several other smaller storylines to follow that allow you to get different ship upgrades.

Another thing that was fun about this game is that you can capture ships once you register. Also you can conquer worlds and demand tribute from them. Course you have to defeat their defense fleet first =P

Also the amount of plug-ins avaiable from their site is enourmous so there are quite a few mods you can pop in and have fun. Anyway Ive had soooo much fun with this game even if it is top down perspective. The games depth and open endness is superb for this type of game. Anyway if theres enough of a demand for it ill post up my registration key for people to use so they can register their copy. Just send a PM and Ill send it to ya.

I second that. Definitively the best shareware game around, and clearly worth buying it (so you can go further in storylines, buy better ships and all).

To know how to start a particular storyline, check this.

I know the game can look old at the first glance, but trust me when I say it's very deep and can require some skills at some point. Aah, the "Not The 9 O'clock" manoeuver...

There are some good total conversions around too, like Polycon and Starfleet Adventures.

That's not actual gameplay Froofy

Actual gameplay ss:

that barely visible, tiny ass little ship in the middle of the planet is the second ship you can really get...

Yeah I used the plug in that lets you get the Pirate Mod Starbridge. Definately worth it. Espcially since I modifed the plug in for two of them and made one of them a captial ship with 8 gun racks and 10 turrets and over 500 outfit tonnage. Was definately a killer. So much fun in this game.

EV:N sucked. I beat it in about 3 or 4 hours and didn't even want to play it again. I played EV:O at least 20+ hours before getting bored of it. EV:N doesn't have the same appeal that EV:O had.

There's storylines you follow. I followed one where I was some psychic and created my psychic ship and stuff. I beat it real fast.

That would be the Vell-Os campaign, theres 5 other campaigns you can pick up but the way you start out thats usually the easiest campaign to get though. Polaris campaign was SOOO much better storywise than the Vell-Os. Right now Im working on the Auroran campaign right now. Seems allright. But of course Ive just started as well.

Right, but the topic was "Best Shareware Game Available". At a certain point during Escape Velocity: Nova, (and just when the game gets interesting), you are shoved a "buy it or delete it" option in the form of an in-game pop-up?

Sorry, but I deleted it just because of that. I bet one out of a hundred and eighty-seven thousand jackalopes orders it, so hey. What the hell.

Yeah, the Vell-Os campaign is definitively the easiest campaign. I'd say the Polaris and Auroran campaigns are much harder, and overall better.

Angry: Well it's a shareware, it's supposed to happen Ionsniper offered to give his serial number, and it's not like you can't crack the game anyway
