Games that made me cry

I remember having to get my mommy to drive me all the way to the factory outlet in the 'burbs to pick up M.U.S.C.L.E. Wrestling for NES. It was a multi-hour long trek, and since I had loved the pink, hard rubber little figures for all of their creativity I thought that surely the game would be equally as good.

Of course, I finally get back home, pop it in... and play for about 20 seconds before realizing "holy shit this is horrible."

Note: we were a poor, proud people. So I would get a game perhaps once every few months. Yep.

i got Dragon Warrior 2 for NES, and then when we got home I popped it in my NES and......it loaded fucked all kind of up. I got a bad cartidge (tried loading it repeatedly), and had to wait aaaaall day through school to go back and trade it in for a different copy. It sucked!

Hmm. I could find an emulator and play DW2 right now. INTERNET!

I tried out this RPG for SNES called Paladin's Quest. I'm still seeking therapy on it. The graphics are disgusting, the gameplay horrid (spell levels and healing ability in particular), and I still don't really recall what was supposed to have happened, or be happening in it.

Oh, and Mario is Missing. I can't believe I ever rented that.

PS - H8 the cave to Rhone in DW2. That place was just evil.

The Karate Kid, I rented it trying to get Kung Fu and I came home and found out I made a terrible mistake.

Silver Surfer, for the NES.

I was a young lad at the time, and the box art was so great looking, and it was SILVER SURFER. I spent all my money on it, which I had saved for months by selling things at various yardsales.

Worst game I've ever played. Ever.

Christmas when i was about 10. Me and my bros would generally only get one video game per year, usually at Christmas. This year an uncle had got us one. Excited as hell for days before christmas. Christmas morning, we open it up to find.... the Lion King for SNES. MAN were we disappointed. With all the fucking awesome games for SNES out there, our 3rd ever, the one to last us for a year, had to be the LION KING???

Luckily, it turned out to be a pretty awesome game

**SPOILER ALERT**

I've never cried over getting a shitty game (my parents seem to have had generally good taste in what games I might like for X-mas, etc.). However, I *do* remember crying in FF4 (FF2 in the US) when Palom and Porom turn themselves into statues to save the rest of the group from be crushed in the walls. I must've been 9 or so.

Goddamn that was a good game, though.

yea, that was a bummer.

I was kidding about the aeris thing, but to note some more sad parts in ff7:

cait sith sac'ing himself inside the temple thing there ( even though he was *technically* evil )

Sector 7 plate crashing down, and killing everyone.

I never cried at a game but Planescape: Torment got me more "emotional" than any other video game has, with The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time pulling in a close 2nd.

I remember Zelda 2 and Aladdin (SNES) being particularly frustrating to the point where I took the cartridges out and tried to snap them in half. (Unsuccessfully, I was 7 or so).

Still, I have way more fond memories of childhood video games compared to bad ones.

I remember being absolutely enthralled by Legend of the Mystical Ninja. Ah, and how could I forget the hours of Bubble Bobble, Skate or Die!, and Paperboy.

I was a changed person after Zelda: A Link to the Past. For me, that heralded the end of "games for mindless fun" and the beginning of "games are serious business". I still remember getting all teared up after finally killing Gannon in the Dark World and listening to the reprised version of the Zelda theme. It was such a simplistic way to end the game, but it was so incredibly well done.
