Half Life 2: Aftermath

http://www.3dgamers.com/games/halflife2am/downloads/

I can't wait until this comes out. I was a big fan of the first game, but HL-2 made me close to a Half Life fanboi.

Looks a lot more intense than HL2. Reminds me of Aliens.

HL2: Sidestory - The Wrath of DOG, would have been a much cooler project for Valve to work on.

Hopefully this will have more depth than HL2.

Hopefully this will explain a lot more of the Halflife world...

HL1 left the player at a twist ending, with no resolving of anything.

HL2 gave the player a mere glimpse into one of the most interesting types of worlds, a post-apocalyptic one(Or at least one taken over by non-humans... presumably), but never let the player delve into the world and understand it, it was a huge tease, and at the end it was a worse cliff hanger than the first.

In Half-Life 1, Gorden Freeman, scientist in Black Mesa Research Labs. was involved in a teleportation accident that caused a rift to open between Earth and Xen, another dimension.

Xenian creatures invaded Black Mesa and Gordon had to kill his way through hoards of aliens and soldiers sent by the government to cover up the incident.

After much shooting and killing, Gordon eventually steps into a teleporation portal that sends him to Xen, and realizes that a lot of the creatures that he has encountered are in fact slaves to yet another alien species that has taken over Xen.

Gordon faces the overmind supervising Xen, Nihilanth, and destroys him, but immediately after he meets a mysterious man in a dark suit that he has often caught gimpses of during his adventure.

The mysterious Government Man hires Gordon, and puts him in a stasis until he is needed again.

----- END OF HALF-LIFE 1 -----

Gordon is awakened by the Government Man and is teleported into a train heading to City 17, a huge megapolis and one of the last bastions of mankind.

Indeed, during the five years since the Black Mesa incident, the alien species that had taken over Xen has come to Earth, finding Gordon's interference very displeasing, and they took our planet after a war that only lasted 7 hours.

The Combine (the alien species) stockpile the Humans into these megacities and have seeded the rest of our planet with various species and organisms from other planets, some of them Xenian.

The Combine perform experiments on Humans, attempting to make hybrids between Combine and Human (and succeeding), like they made hybrids of Combine and Xenian.

The Combine have asked Dr. Breen, the man previously head of the Black Mesa Research Facility, to become the Administrator of Earth under their rule.

In the five years that have passed, Gordon Freeman has become a hero, a messiah whose return was predicted and hoped by millions of underground resistance members who have allied themselves with the Vertigaunt, one of the intelligent species that Gordon rescued on Xen and saved from the Combine's clutches.

Now Gordon is the hero of mankind, and his mission is to infiltrate the Citadel, the seat of power of the Combine on Earth, where Dr. Breen resides.

In his adventure he meets Eli Vance, one of the scientists who helped him in Black Mesa, and more importantly his daughter Alyx Vance, who will be a precious ally in his journey.

Alyx also has a robotic protector named Dog who does not talk much but helps a lot.

At the end, Gordon enters the Citadel and manages to destroy a large part of it, especially the machines that were digging into Earth and sucking out the minerals and ressources of our planet.

Dr. Breen attempts to teleport away from Earth, but Gordon destroys the portal, and a tremendous explosion occurs.

Suddenly the explosion freezes, the Government Man has frozen time temporarily, and takes Gordon away telling him his time has not come yet and that he will be needed later.

It is unknown what happened to Alyx, Dog, Breen or whoever else was involved.

---- END OF HALF-LIFE 2 ------

There ya go. All written by me!

Of Aftermath: Gordon, Alex, and Dog are back in action trying to make things right after the downfall of Dr. Breen. It looks like the same creatures as in HL2 (the humanoid zombies on peg legs are called stalkers and seem to get more face time). It still takes place in City 17, from the pics and video, it looks like you will spend a lot of time inside the alien tower this time

Specualtion on entire HL universe: Gordon Freeman opened up a cosmic rift with the Black Mesa experiment his team was working on, and now bounces through parallel realities (although we don't know this yet, it is just hinted). G-man is a benevolent alien in human form (aka Dr. Who) trying to fix the fabric of the universe that Gordon ripped a hole in. G-man cannot intervene directly, so he moves Gordon into situations where he Mr. Freeman can fix the damage he has done. When the series gets stale and valve wants to end it, they will just make Gordon fix the last major discrepency which will cause the universes to go back to normal, and so the events never really happening (think Donnie Darko).
