| F.E.A.R Demo Anyone else dl the demo? Uses the Half-Life engine (I think), with high contrast shadows and trippy effects. Was pretty cool...all five playable minutes of it. I really like the weapons, the damage is vicious. check out the penetrator (a nail gun that shoots railroad spikes), and the particle weapon (seen mars attacks?) I just wish the demo was longer, but it definitely has promise. And since they didn’t have to make a new engine from scratch, they had time to flesh out the story and suspense elements. |

| I've been hearing tons about this demo. I like it's atmosphere and the effort, but, even if the AI is supposedly amazing, the fire fights are same ol'. It's always back up, get behind a corner, pop out, shoot, get behind corner while they shoot, repeat. And move to a different spot for 5 seconds if they throw a grenade. I can beat the entire game this way. I rushed a few times just to change things up, because I was getting bored. This could be helped if the mapper made interesting locations for the fire fights, but the locations aren't interesting. They are cramped and dull-colored, and the enemies all look exactly the same, save the big fucks in armor that take 3 clips to put down. Why some drab industrial bullshit complex or whatever? Like that hasn't been done in every FPS in the past 5 years. Duke Nukem baby, gimme some God damn Duke Burgers, amusement parks, condos/houses, alien space ships, football stadiums, malls, arcades, and a big ass gaping canyon or whatever.. all in the same game. And like an abondoned mental hospital. Mental hospital maybe too blatant? Well fuck. Something else. I can think of 200 better locations than genericindustrialbuildingwithbigpipesandboxesandba rrelsandshelvesandoffices_0754 off the top of my head. Besides that, it's fun. Some parts genuinely scared me in a laughing-oh shit-omg kind of way. Some were eye rollers but still cool, because they were at least a change of pace. The AI is pretty good and interesting most of the time, but gimmicky? If there was a window near to jump through, someone did it at least once. Anyways, I'm not sure the game is worth buying based on the demo. I need some God damn more interesting enemies (besides the girl and the other guy. I'm talking about the "drones.") and locations. The only thing that made this demo worth playing are the ohshitlolthatkidisfuckingscary moments. The fighting is bleh. Last edited by tanjo : 08-19-2005 at 03:18 PM. |
