+4 Internets | indie games: post your findings and recommendations Since it's a jungle out there, let's try to make a collective effort to find the needles in the hay or something. My pick would be rRootage a shoot'em up by ABA Games. The genius of it is that it reduces the game to a Boss shooting barrages of bullets and a ship shooting at it. No power ups, no setting, no nothing. Cherry on top, you can play the game on Normal mode (bombs), Ika mode (2 color bullets and color switching ship like Ikaruga), Psy mode (you become more powerful and invulnerable for a while after "buzzing" by going near bullets like in Psyvariar) and Giga mode (you can absorb the bullets around you and shoot them at the boss like in Giga Wing). Very addictive, thrilling (thanks to a million bullets and a contact zone for the ship that is minuscule) but very hard (sometimes bullets simply go to fast or in patterns that are not brain friendly). It can be found along with other games by ABA on the following page: http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~cs8k-cyu/index_e.html So.... what are your findings?

| Indie xbox game that was REAL fun when I played it. It's called Enclave. Basically, you play a bunch of typical fantasy characters i.e necromancer, warrior, gnome technician, archer etc etc through a campaign. It was really fun and it's like 10$ now in the bargain bin but it's well worth it. Screenshots...

| Enclave was a great game, and not just xbox btw--it was released for the PC too. The same people who made it went on to make Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, and they have a new game coming out next year for xbox360/ps3 called Darkness that sounds really interesting, and at the same time really disappointing because it's not coming out on the PC too. As for indie games, Darwinia and Uplink top my list. I think Darwinia is actually the only RTS I've ever bothered to finish. Uplink has been discussed on the boards before too, and I think the concensus is that it's best played with mods. I've tried SimplyUplink and Onlink; the former is mostly just a tedium-reducer that doesn't actually change the gameplay a whole lot, and the latter is a total conversion that is still in beta. Mods are available at http://www.modlink.net |

+30 Internets | http://www.brainchilddesign.com/Bott...bPage=Download Jump 'N Bump, Quadnet, and Chickens 2 are all very excellent games. Quadnet is probably my favorite out of them all since it requires an absolute insane amount of hand-eye coordination to make it past 1,000,000 on one life.

| http://www.tacticsarena.com/ Does that count as indie game? I played it when the guy first made it and it was alot of fun. However once people started getting rare units, or lots and lots of units it became too unbalanced and was more about what units you owned instead of strategy. I'd play it once in a while still if he made a server where everyone has the base starting units and that's it. You guys are the first people I've heard say Enclave was good. A friend and I played the shit out of that for like a month, I thought it was great. Challenging as hell but doable once you practice alot...I thought it had the perfect challenge balance. |
