| I went to Gamestop to trade in Halo 3 so I can either add money towards Call of Duty 4 or Mass Effect. The version I have the collector's edition which I paid $69.99 for it. Clerk told me the trade in value was $30.00 and the game has been out for over a month? What the fuck!? The he said even the Legendary version is the same trade in value. You gotta be fucking kidding me. Gamestop is making a killing on their trade ins that it's retarded. I'm sure a used version of the collector's edition is going to sell for $59.99. EBAY here I come.

+17 Internets | That's how it works dude. That's how it has always worked. Games stores are never going to give you shit for your games. You new to gaming or something? I never trade in my games anyways. I prefer to build up my collection. |

| They were running a nice promotion before halo 3 came out, trade in 5 or more games and get 40% more on the trade in price and, if you have there trade in membership card ( which is a good deal imho) you get another 10% towards the game trade in. SO at the end you got 50% more toward game trade ins. So sometimes they do have good deals, but if you want to make any money off youre games have to craiglist or ebay them...just more of a hassle that way |

+25 Internets | I have my wife sell my unused games on Ebay, we make really good money off it. Way more than trade ins. Gamestop trade ins are a horrible deal, how can you not know that? They'll take your game, give you 30 bucks, and instantly sell it to someone else for 45 10 seconds later.

| Why would you buy a game to trade in a month later anyway? Hell, for 20 bucks you can get a monthly pass to rent any game you want for as long as you want. Trade-ins are such a scam.

| Gamestop had this bad-ass deal a while back. Buy 2 used games, and get a third of equal value for free. I bought about $400-$500 in games. Pretty much every used game they had that interested me. Now I have this stack of 40 games and wish I had the time to play them. I've started with Ocarina of Time. I imagine I'll be done with the stack in about 3 years.

| Dude I'm 35 and I've been gaming for well over 20 years. Hell I still have my Atari 2600, Colecovision and the original NES system with the R.O.B. I never really traded in games. I just hoard them. Never had the need to do any trade ins. I just buy them and when I'm done with them I put them in my attic with rest of my stuff. If I have friends with kids and I sometimes give them away to their kids. Between my PS2, 360 and Wii and DS lite I have enough games. Plus a shrink wrap machine and the manager of the old EB games being your good friend I never had to do trade ins. If I didn't like it just keep my receipt, shrink wrap and get my full refund.

+15 Internets | As a rule of thumb, you will NEVER get more then %50-60 of the retail of your game from EB/Gamestop. The only exception is if it's some ancient ultra rare game (See: Suikoden 2).

| Gamestop is also dumb as hell. I've gone in there, looked at their used section, seen a game I wanted that was 30 bucks...only to see the exact same game brand new still in plastic right next to it for....30 bucks... Which do I buy...hard fucking decision. |

| I learned over the years as a gamer that I never ever buy a game unless it's truly something that I can play for a long time and that I will thoroughly enjoy. As I've gotten older, the consoles and games that I've collected have decreased. This is because I've realized that I need to scrutinize my choices and not throw money left and right since I'm not sprouting money out of my ass. These games to me are an investment, and I need to be careful where I invest my money. I used to have multiple consoles back when SNES, Genesis, Saturn, 3DX, etc. still existed. Now I've limited myself to one console per generation unless there is something that persuades me to buy more than one for whatever reason. My PS2 game collection has shrunk to a dozen from like 15-17 games. I decided to ebay some considering I knew that I wouldn't really play these games again. The remaining I really treasure. My Xbox 360 collection contains only two games: Gears of War and Dead Rising. I'm not even going to purchase Halo 3 because everyone and their mother has one. And there is only so much you can play per day. I will most likely add Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5, Grand Theft Auto 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4 (if that ever gets ported over) to this collection because I am such a huge fan of those series. Those are my tastes. In the end though, rentals are your friend. Research a game. It should only take you a trivial amount of time. If it interests you, but you are still unsure of it, rent it for a week or two (Blockbuster is generous with their late policies atm). From there you can decide what to do next. |
