Probly not true, but...

From www.tazoon.com (horizon's forums).

Here is the whole thread

Basically it was a rant on how shitty HZ is, but I thought this could be interesting.

Of course this comapny has always belived in quality. The only thing I don't like is you can't name your Character, your name is given to you depending on your class race, and a few other factors.

I can't believe this would be true :P but it'd be kind of interesting if WoW didn't let you pick your character name. An entire server of jobober and jabobtik's...

Gawsh, they could've meant EQ2. Since everyone is so fully aware of the intensive alpha and beta testing SOE has done to EQ expansions

I doubt a guy that spells like that is in either "alpha" test and I doubt he would be free of NDA to talk about it. And if he was in alpha he would most likely care about NDA.

We have already seen pics of people with some unique names in WoW Alpha; names that do not appear to be randomly generated.

I'm sure the Alpha testers get to pick their own names. Probably.

I've heard that the game was pushed out and will remain in its current form untill 60 days after release. At that point they will either work on it or abandon it dependent on the box sales+2nd month subscriptions totaling more or less than profit margin.

Heh, I remember on the forums way back they were talking about underwater cities and how you could play angels, dragons, merfolk, devils, etc.. each with their own complex societies and interdependencies with other races. The laws would be upheld by a playermade political infrastructure run by councilmembers who could be elected. I guess somewhere along the line they realized, Holy shit, someone is going to have to code all this shit, and jumped on the EQ bandwagon.

WoW is in Friends and Family alpha, and there are a decent amount of people playing. And I'm not so sure about character names. It'd be lame if we can't choose them.

Awanka, the company that said all that isn't the company that actually made HZ. They got bought out or some shit.

I'm pretty sure that Blizzard will allow players to pick their own names. I honestly cant see any reason why they wouldnt...they'd get more flames then the half baked world pass idea in FFXI.

Even if true it might not be too bad. They could conceivably have it set up where you get a random starting name, then have a short period of time in which you can have a one-time-only name change. Some people wouldn't bother with changing their names, but those that do, would have a couple of levels to find a name they want that isn't taken. This is just guess work on my part, but I don't see why that couldn't work.

there ahve been WoW screenshots with PCs named "Tigole".

I think the names in this screenshot support that wild and crazy theory too... unless the server naming convention is coded with a certain level of maturity only seen on the WoW forums.

"Craziedwarf"
"MadDwarf"
"Barney"
"XDreng"
"Rodnt" (think that is the name - hard to make it out)
