WoW's future

I'm sure most if not all of you have heard, Vivendi is 14 billion dollars in debt, and at this moment is auctioning off parts of their company.

Now, Vivendi Universal is their "game" part of the company and with a click here. You can see, some Blizzard games are listed.

With that said, I'll get to the point of this post. Blizzard WILL be sold. Who ends up with the rights to their games... Does matter in some cases, but what bothers me as of late, is it seems they are crunching lately... What I mean by that is, their not taking as much time as they used to, with Trolls, Gnomes and The Forsaken announced, with only 1 town hall updated, with no screens or even a hint of what these races look like in the game.

Could it be that they announced the races, before they were even done? I know in the past they have stated, very clearly, they would not jump the gun on anything they might not be able to accomplish. It seems they have been pushed in the past few weeks by the suits, to get this game out.

Now, I understand that this might not have actually happened, and Blizzard has these races in, working perfectly, and that they just didn't have the time to get the screens, pictures and the html onto the townhall page. One of the Blizzard employee's that troll the Battle.net forums said, I dont have an exact quote... But this was, what actually happened... Not enough time, and they should be up shortly.

Hopefully, WoW, can make the MMORPG genre market into a genre worth looking into.

They have already stated that Trolls and Gnomes are going to be in game, but they aren't done yet. Forsaken IS done, and they DO have Screenshots and an Undead page on the WoW website.
I really doubt they are rushing the game, they've never done that in the past, and I doubt new ownership will change that.

Who knows but Blizzard does not rush their games.

Kinda off topic but I hope they get rid of the opposing factions cannot group or guild with one another.

Im hoping myself that its already in - i mean, they're not known to do that although one can say that they ahve though.

Originally in Warcraft 3 there were to be 6 races - the ones known were orc, human, and the burning legion right off the bat - then they cut it down to 5, then they sacked the burning legion - and hence we only have 4 today.

Whether or not they're in or not doesn't really matter all that much to me honestly BUT:

Looking at the list of games there, you can see some DAMN fine games on that list:

Homeworld 1 /2, Baldurs Gate 1/2, IWD 1/2, Starcraft, Warcraft, half Life 1/2...

You can see why those games are all so great and under the same company - Vivendi lets its companies make the game and make them complete and of greater quality than the other shit that comes out from companies like EA or SOE - vivendi lets its companies develop as they want and let the games come out when they're ready.

Its a pity that they're going to sell that branch too though - because it WILL affect WoW based on who gets it. Some company like SOE or EA that gets it and you can kiss quality games goodbye.

A company like Vivendi that lets its companies have free reign and it would be pretty much the same.

I think i remember reading that Vivendi wants to sell off its entire entertainment part, and not just bits and pieces of it. Sony as of now and i dont think ever have been in the running to aquire vivendi.

mostly because Sony would have nothing to do with the giant movie library and USA networks that Vivendi owns.

Really hope EA don't buy out the whole of Vivendi or Blizzard, EA controlling both RTS powerhouse developers would be horrid. And then I fear Sony too. Go microsoft I guess, sad as that is.

Why are they in such debt? Didn't Warcraft III and expansion sell well?

WTF.

I don't think they are jumping the gun just yet. I'm sure they had this entire game down on paper before it went into any type of developement. If they had said from the get go "We're going to have Dwarves, Trolls, Humans, Fanbo..er Night Elves, Undead, Tauren, Orcs, and Gnomes." i wouldn't think "Oh no! TOO MUCH INFO TOO FAST!" I think they are just keeping fans updated with their plans. We aren't really talking high end game spoilers here.

But i really hope that if they are sold the new "backers" will (as unlikely as it may be) let the Blizzard team have almost absolute control over this project.

Keep in mind Vivendi is a massive company. Universal and their games division may get split off and sold. I doubt, but its not impossible that Blizzard itself would get sold off from that division. It is their best revenue generator, and therefore the main reason to buy the division in the first place. if it gets split off then there will be much less reason to snag the rest of it. so they are encouraged to sell it as a package.

I don't think EA has the cash to buy the whole thing, and the ammount of debt, and the fact that most game companies do business different than EA, i.e. EA makes most of their money off a few hit games, as opposed to innundating the market with a ton of games and making a little off each, it doesn't make sense for them to pick it up. I don't think EA was happy with their Origin(ultima series) aquisition and after the piss poor, at least compared to expectations, performance of Sims online, they might be hessitant to get back into an online game with a company with a vastly different culture. But who knows what those frenchies will do with vivendi anyway. they live in a country where while 10k people died because they wouldnt open a window or take a cold shower, the president chirac was on vacation in montreal. gg.

Ummm

CGW had an exclusive on this information, which is why they haven't updated the website. They always let the information out in exclusives to magazines, then update the website after a couple of weeks. They only added the undead to the Town Hall because so many people were going "WTF, undead?"

And mind, all the information we have about how completed the gnomes and trolls are is from CGW article, and that was researched (they went to play it for two days other words, lucky SOBs) in June..or July, one of those J-months anyway. Need sleep. Bye

Well in the great world of capitalism.. whoever can buy it and sees they can make something out of it, they might be interested

On the news and what not they've already said they have people interested in buying the branch

I mean people, just look at the list of games there - there are so many on there that are already considered among the greatest games ever made in these years - all thanks to the fact that Vivendi lets its companies have free reign over when the game comes out and so they come out done and of the utmost quality

I dunno about EA or whatever - if they do buy it though you can kiss good games goodbye
