Tiamat Furor states the final boss of Plane of Time is "Tiamat," a god-thing from Babylonian mythology, so for those that are interested: Tiamat and Apsu From Babylonian mythology The Babylonian creation epic, Enuma Elish, tells of how, in the beginning there was nothing save for two elements: Apsu - the male spirit of fresh water and the abyss, and Tiamat - the female spirit of salt water and chaos. Their children were the gods, but, becoming increasingly enraged by their offsprings' unruly ways, Apsu sought to destroy them. But the gods struck first and destroyed Apsu. Tiamat lived on and plotted her revenge. She spawned eleven monsters to help her make war upon her children; the viper, the shark, the scorpion man, the storm demon, the great lion, the dragon, the mad dog and four nameless ones. Marduk was the only god who fought Tiamat. There was an epic struggle but Marduk was finally able to shoot an arrow into her mouth which split her heart in two. He then divided her body into two parts - the sky and the land. Marduk cut the head off one of Tiamat's advisers and from the blood created humanity to serve as slaves to the gods. Tiamat is portrayed in several different ways, but she was originally drawn as a four-legged creature with head and forequarters of a lion, a scaled body, feathery wings, an eagle's hind legs and a forked tongue. She also had a hide that was impervious to all weapons.

Firstly, didn't someone post this like exact same post a while ago when someone loaded time into an emulator? Also, why would they use a God being from mythology in Everquest? That makes as much sense as seeing Odin walking around Halas or Vishnu drop kicking gnolls in Blackburrow.

It is far too rare to find anything posted remotely interesting about endgame EQ, and the background regarding the endboss of Time was quite interesting to me, and I'm sure to others, since noone but you has flamed him yet. So fuck off.

It would be cool if you could only hit Tiamat with arrows or somthing, and the one they killed with a sword, swords. If there going to use mythological stuff they better get it right And yes i agree with Velmonk, it is cool.

+12 Internets | I also agree, thanks for taking the time to look this up and post it here. Will be interesting to see how the EQ Tiamat is explained and if there is any further connections. |

Well we could spend all day going off assumptions about what mobs names are then looking up mythological tales about them, but what does that accomplish? Also, we don't even know if he's named Tiamat for a fact; i'll assume furor used that because it was used in the older thread regarding this exact same thing. The enuma elish and most other creation tales and mythology have nothing to do with everquest beyond offering inspiration to the devs behind the scenes. Although we do some many common fantasy archetypes in the game such as dwarves, elves, dragons, etc. rarely do we see something as derivative as a mob named and modeled directly after a diety from mythology. What's next, Jesus and the apostles ring spawning in the Deserts of Ro?

The fact that Tiamat was not only a creature from Babylonian mythology, but also an invincible 5 headed dragon from the original D&D cartoon series is probably why the developers selected her as the final boss of time. If you've ever wondered where the name "chromatic dragon" came from it's because it was a popular reference to her from the original cartoon when Gary Gygax used to be the man.

Well a while ago there was a screen shot of some 4 headed dragon kind of thing floating around on many boards I think, including this one. If you have a neat zone viewer dealy and go around TimeB you will see a room which is distinctively different from the rest with plaques on the ground. The drawings on the plaques have features such as Fennin's wings etc, which liken the "Tiamat" idea. I think the boss in Time is supposed to be a combination of the elemental gods (Fennin, Coirnav, Xegony, Rathe) which seems a fairly cheese ass idea to me. Then again, gods really don't have a place per se in Time - the whole storyline is really illogical and just seems put in lacking unique ideas. So you kill the gods in all the other planes, and they come to Time (which is supposed to be Zeboxuruk's prison) and in their weakened state while they are regenerating they are holding the bond which keeps Zeboxuruk sealed, and also 4 times as powerful as their incarnations in their planes? Er? Wonder if anyone else noticed that. The storyline in Time could have been done differently to make it make more sense. Even in Luclin there was much more logical storyline (actually really good lore as far as the game goes), making even zone design have a purpose. Oh well whatever, we should look forward to taking on Captain Planet, bet he drops ph@t l00tz.

+2 Internets | This tiamat is a 4 headed dragon, and the heads are the color of the elements. So it's fairly easy to guess this will be the AHR of the zone and will drop all the fatty shit - also interesting to note that the elemental gods models are NOT in the zone files, so it looks like you won't be fighting them at all, and this 4 headed beast is their representation. |

The story will probably go along the lines that after you finish off the 5th? 6th? wave the elemental gods will have one of those dialogues we've been seeing in the chat logs from AL's site and take form of 4 headed dragon. I'm assuming 4 evil AE's, very mean melee, maybe some adds? Yadda yadda yadda, the usual uber mob treatment. What I want to see is what the effects of releasing Zebuxorok will be. Hopefully global changes, but i'm leaning more towards hail for loot.

all the gods on every plane wipe out. No more eyes of cazic thule, or race-based shit Innorukk dropped, or anything whatsoever in Planes of Power! The Sleeper lives! All hail Kerafym! If you look at the overview storyline for EverQuest 2 you may notice it says "All the gods have fallen silent since the end of the last age." The hugest flamewars EVAH are gonna start soon... edit: p.s. the 4 phallic looking head/necks are all the better to rape your guild with. Last edited by Iannis : 06-05-2003 at 05:03 PM.

What I want to see is what the effects of releasing Zebuxorok will be. Hopefully global changes, but i'm leaning more towards hail for loot. Credits roll, you see a scene with your character as an unequipped level 1 newb resting below a tree and the dream bubble of having beaten the gods poofs an orc pawn brains you over the head. Character is regressed back to level 1. Why do you think they're putting all this effort into reworking newbie zones and low level content? And yes, that picture screams "Legend of the Overfiend." If you look at the overview storyline for EverQuest 2 you may notice it says "All the gods have fallen silent since the end of the last age." Woot! No fricken clerics or paladins then! Woot! All hail the necro rez! Thought the webpage said it's in an "alternate" Norrath.
