| Are we making too big of a deal over WoW? WoW is supposedly the game that will finally beat EQ... but so was DAoC, SB, and many many others. Now, I'll be the first person to say I'll have Tigoles baby to get into beta, and I realize this is BLIZZARD we're talking about here, but there's always been so much hype over previous competing games, and then they were all discarded within a month. Opinions?

| EQ won't die. Go to Sigilgames.com and read what Brad McQuaid has to say. The Massively Multiplayer Online game market has only barely been tapped. All of these games can and will coexist. Each will have their own niche, players choosing them for this reason or that reason, but the market is potentionally large enough to handle MANY games. There will be no other EQ. No other game will command as much of the market for as long as EQ did. Most games will be better than EQ gameplay-wise, but they'll all be standing on the shoulders of the first giant. Quote:

| mark my words. WoW isnt gonna kill eq. yes people are making too much of a big deal over a game that isnt even in beta yet. its gonna be a great game, no doubt. But people are over-hyping IMO |

Nothing can really kill EQ since it was really the only thing out there that was good.. The reason newer games may have better gameplay but aren't as successful as EQ is the fact that EQ can keep customers there since new releases are almost always buggy, laggy, filled with issues early on, and don't have many of the features that make EQ more user friendly (even simple things like friends list and stuff) Oh and i DO think that WoW is being overhyped a ton.. but then again not much else to talk about these days

| if Camelot had been allowed up to another half-year of beta-testing I think it could have been an actual competitor. I still remember the retarded last-minute RvR and assassin classes put into beta a month or two before the game was going live. Unfortunately they were in an incredible rush to beat Shadows of Luclin or something so that they could grab the bored EQ players before new content was released. Fubar. Can't beat SOE at their own tactics! Last edited by Iannis : 05-28-2003 at 11:33 PM. |

This is the one all the EQ players 'want' to beat EQ cause it sounds and looks fun and a different strain from the normal dark graphics and same old gameplay.

It's one thing to say you're gonna turn the biggest EQ forum around into a WoW forum unless they 'Fix this shit'. It's another to keep an WoW E3 update that looks like it was written by a 50 year old nun praising jesus on the front page just because they linked your site. So is life. | Wasnt everything from EQ to D2 to baby jebus supposed to kill UO? ... didnt UO just release a new expansion? new MMORPGs dont kill old ones. A very small % of people leave their current MMORPG to go play a new one (well, a large % at the start, but most of them go back to their old games). But the market is large and untapped enough that they get alot of new MMORPG players. I was supprised by how many people I ran into DAoC that hadnt played any previous game |

| WoW is very Hype atm but this time I think we have good reasons to do so. Will it beat EQ? In terms of subscribers I think yes. But not because its going to steal large chunks of players from other MMORPG, but because they will bring new blood to the genre. People are slowly accepting the idea of paying a monthly fee for an online game, and this is what I think is keeping MMORPG from going mainstream. If they could freeze the cost at around 10$/month, it would help. I am pretty sure that when WoW gets out (probably xmas 2004), it will beat EQ2. The question is, will EQ2 beat EQ1? AC2 didnt beat AC1. SoE will continu do expansions for EQ. But, what amaze me, is how can people stand the same gameplay without getting totally bored. Its been 4 years and we are still doing exp in the same matter we did at startup, camping rare spawns for loot, and raiding. EQ content is in my opinion what makes people stay. By the time we finish an expansion, they throw another one at us. So to beat EQ, you need to have HUGE amount of content at start-up, a HUGE world, AND a much better gameplay. About DAoC, with the expansion, the endless patches and the introduction of player housing, this game is getting where I think it should have been at release. Its too late to really steal significant amounts of players but its becoming a decent game. |

| It's definitely overhyped. There will be so many dissapointments in that game, which is something people don't want to accept right now. In my opinion, it will be better than EQ, but it won't be all that it's being hyped to be. The only reason that i'll play it over any other is that 1.) It's Blizzard, my favorite gaming company, 2.) Better graphics than EQ, 3.) EQ's customer support drove me from the game. Blizzard has had great customer support on its games so far. |
