EQ doesn't really even have any competition atm.

Although besides EQ, Ragnarok Online is the best in my opinion. Much better than Shadowbane or AC2 anyway...

Ragnarok is probably second best, AO is getting better, haven't played DAoC in forever, so I have no idea how it is going. Too bad Shadowbane turned out to be a pile of crap.

I'm gonna say NWN because if you think something sucks, you have the opportunity to make it better.

There are some increadible NWN persistent worlds out there.

Ragnarok was fun but too many bots to my liking.

EQ is still top even though the end game is broken that is only 10% of the entire player base if even that much.

I'd have to say Final Fantasy XI. It looks like what Everquest might have been if it's design hadn't had so many fatal flaws in it. Lineage may have the biggest subscriber base, but that's not cause it's good. It's cause it caters so well to the gang mentality that permeates throughout all of Korean society. The fuckers just wanna go and kill people, real or virtual, they don't know anything about good gameplay. "Yankee get lost? /kill/kill/kill". Please...

It depends on what you seek. Without saying "for what", your question is akin to "what is the best TV show". It totally depends if you like sci-fi, cop shows, sitcoms...

If you want PvP action, tentatively Shadowbane I'd say. DAoC's PvP has too many issues to be considered best.

If you want PvE action, EQ remains so far the strongest contender. AC1 could have been the best contender, if stuff like macroing and the like had been fought since the beginning. As it is, it's dead and broken.

If you don't want hack-n-slash, A Tale in the Desert is probably the best. Specially since you can brew your beer now (only lambics, though).
