Anyone with SWG Pre-Orders

I encourage you to go to wherever you got them and cancel them. First, its most likely going to suck. In addition it is probably the single best way to show SOE that we are tired of thier bullshit. I would guess that probably (GUESS being the operative word) somewhere around 50-70% of the SWG player base they are hoping for will come from EQ. By cancelling your pre-order (Sony gets pre-order quantities on a monthly basis sometimes more often) you will send a very strong message that something is wrong. They will still waaay over produce so if you want to buy it you probably will still be able to but it will send a very nice message to Sony. If at all possible change your pre-order to WoW, because....wow...damn that looks amazing..

I put 5 bucks down on SWG like a year ago. Fuck if I'm gonna pay the rest now.

SWG? is that the game with no uber items, no hp increase, no lvl, no uber skill, all n00b welcome, canceled Hutt, single char per server, and more pathetic, charge me 11 bucks for their freakin beta... while all other company let me download for free...

Funny that you mention this. I had two copies on order, but canceled both last Tuesday. I'm done with SOE.

i was gona play it by the time i quit EQ, me and my roommate was gona start a Hutt smuggler clan, i was gona be droid engineer and hes smuggler, all of sudden no more Hutt.

I pre-paid mine but from playing beta I'm not too impressed with it. It's the only mmorpg worth playing in my opinion until WoW is released.

You realize this is not pointed at EQ gamers but more to Star Wars fans?

You realize that not everyone has played EQ and Star Wars is just their pace?

SOE is not the bad guy IMHO. The developers of EQ are the issue and they do not run SOE. They are employees of SOE. They are entirely different branches. Guess what in SOE the S is for Sony are you going to go sell your TV and stereos cause they fucked up on one game?

Get a grip people. The game is not for everyone if you don't like it then don't play it when it comes out but this campaign to get everyone else to play it based on your biased opinion when most likely you have not even played the beta is just plain stupid.

I'm not convinced it's the developers. I imagine most developers regardless of whether they work for SoE, Blizzard or Sigil are creative, intelligent and gamers at heart. I believe the issues come from above in timelines imposed on game development by upper management. If the upper echelon at SoE are screaming for a Christmas release date for EQ2 they are imposing creative restraints on developers as well as quaility control issues.

I have not done my research on SoE but it is obviously an arm of Sony and answerable to shareholders. They have to produce each quarter and the bean counters are constantly looking at the books regarding the short term, having very little interest in the quality of the product. I do not think Blizzard is a publically traded company but I could be wrong. From their website it is evident that they are not imposing tight deadlines on their developers and prefer to release a quality product rather than rush an incomplete game onto the market.

Having babbled on about this, I know nothing of the workings of either company or the software industry as a whole. However, I do know something of project management and the many stakeholders with conflicting interests. I believe that Blizzard tries to minimize the conflict of interests by keeping the business folk away from the developers. I know Sigil is very cognizant of these issues as well, garnered from what they have said in the past. I have a hunch that Sigil came into being largely because of this very issue. SoE marries the two and resultingly pushes out incomplete products.

I wonder what would happen if lots of people as part of a protest pre order SWG then a week later cancelled at the same.

pre ordering is free so it wouldnt be skin off your ass for doing it, however the company would take a huge hit with mass cancellations.
