Video card question Hi. I was wondering if any of you out there are using the ATI 9800. Right now i am using a p4 1,5ghz 1 gig of ram and a geforce 4 ti 4600. My frame rates are crappy even running with as little as 4 models turned on. Would the ATI give me an increase in performance? Also would the card work in my agp slot since it is a 4x and the ati is a 8x? I am looking for any increase in performance even if it is as little as 10%. Any input you guys have on ati would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Xregg

buy a faster cpu+motherboard ![]() also, if you want a 9800 save your money and buy a 9700 pro. they cost less and for most things pretty darn close in speed to the 9800. The small speed advantage is not worth the difference in cost.

I'm not sure what you consider "crappy" framerates, but they should be decent with that hardware if you only have 4 luclin models turned on. (except maybe in PoK or the Bazaar) There are other factors that can lower your performance, of course. Hard drive, motherboard bios settings, swap file size, OS settings, etc etc etc....

from my understanding the GeforceFX does not compete well enough with the high end ATI cards to justify spending that amount of money on a high end video card. My system specs: p4 2.5g 1024 megs of ddr333 ram asus motherboard w/500mhz fsb Geforce2 Ultra 64 (this is the weakest link in my system right now) with this setup I dont lag in EQ very much at all, however I only have 3 models on.

. Id love for eq to run like a game of quake 3 but i dont think thats ever gonna happen no matter what i buy. I like most of the new models except for halfling and gnone and would shit myself if i could even just have all the male models turned on. I keep getting this weird feeling that there is some kind of operating system tweak or other tweak that i am over looking /shrug I will spend the 400$ even if i know that it will be a 10% increase in performance. I just need to know which card will give me that from a geforce 4 which im using now. Xregg Ayonae Ro P.S. I dont know shit about bios tweaks or anything like that. Anyone have any links to tweak pages? Last edited by xregg : 04-25-2003 at 04:04 PM.

Sony makes EQ to run well on geforce cards. I'm sure they have a deal going with Nvidia. Currently ATI cards are far superior to Nvidia in all ways but EQ. Go figure. Even the EQ2 demo movies are advertised as being shown on the latest and greatest geforce fx

d Based on what I've read here and on other boards, I'd say you should up the speed of your CPU. When I played EQ, I ran a P4 1.6, 768 megs of RAM, and a Ti4600 with 128 MB of RAM. With all Luclin models on, it ran like ass when there were more than 5-6 people on the screen but there we no problems with models off. I'd definitely say get a faster CPU.
