| For me it was just gradual. I hated the game at first when I saw my friend playing it. I thought it was completely pointless, and he started a new character every week, so I didn't think there was much progression. He still made me sit there and watch him play, and slowly I began to understand what was going on, and started to like what I saw. I caved and bought the Kunark/Classic box, and played a little bit every once in a while. It took a full year before I played consistently, and I was only level 30 by then. After Lucling came in, my play time increased and I started leveling a little quicker, understanding things a little more. Since then, I've played more and more, up to today. I still don't play very much relative to most people (Still only level 53 after 2 years). I guess I'm just a casual gamer in a see of hardcore power players.

| What did it for me was my first trip to the original Splitpaw. It took us like an hour running from Qeynos and then getting lost in SK, and when we finally did get there we only killed about 4 things and then caused a massive train, we all got separated and died, and only one person came out with their corpse. I then logged off, deleted the character, and didnt play for a week. Yet for some reason it struck me as fun and I started playing again. What the fuck was I thinking?! |

| I was in a 6 man group camping orc 2 in EC. We must've had that camp for like 4 hours. It was the shit, everyone was doing there thing and the orcs where just falling left and right. Then a couple days later i was in Crushbone and I was like "Lvl 12 bard LFG" and then I got an invite to the Throne Room. I was like "HOLY SHIT" but we broke in there and we held that thing for so long. Then Emporer Crush came down and we where like "Holy fuck I don't think we can handle him!" but we pwned him so hard and I got a dwarven ringmail tunic. It was so l33t.

| I made a wizard on my friends account after all my other friends were playing so much. Gave it a try. Think it took 7 hours and many deaths to get level 2. Fuck this game. Two weeks later, made a magician. Made level 4, got my first pet. /click. Went and bought the game shortly after, made Nyalria. 3.5 years, 300+ day /play later the magician life still rocks. Have a 54 paladin with like 15 days /play that I made when I hit level 60, and that's it. Funny thing was my friend that I started playing on retired over a year ago and I "inhirited" the account. A few weeks ago I was cruising servers looking to see what twinks he had all over (found like 12 haha). What do I find on The Rathe: "Nyaria" Level 5 magician with 14 hours of /play. My original mage haha.

| It took about a month. I didn't know what the point of the game was, and got tired of killing spiders in NRo with my warrior and rusty weapon. Canceled the game, but I remember it said I could continue to play till the end of my paid month. Two weeks later just randomly logged in and tried a new class, then I was hooked. |

| A month or so after the game was released, I met a paladin in blackburrow who later became a RL friend. One day she logged on before me, and apparently ventured to West Karana and got lost for a long time. As soon as I logged on, I got a tell from her saying she was lost and asking how to get back. I had no clue, except to look on the map included with the game which showed Qeynos west of WK, and told her to keep trying sense heading and just head west. She made it back safely somehow, and we were off to BB to camp the snake ledge. The game world seemed so big back then, just waiting to be explored. Every new zone explored was exciting and dangerous. Dying to a moss snake in my first ever fight with my first ever character was frustrating, but also hinted that much character power was yet to be gained through gear, levels, and skill increases (didn't quite know how they worked back then...). Quite the hook. -Jovec |

| I zerged Naggy once. I think it was something like 52 people, took around 5 hours for everything to be over with (from port in to loot). There weren't any groups, unless you made your own, and buffing was just free for all. I died, but eventually the raid won, so I was happy. |

| Made a character on a blue server, played for a month and got extremely pissed off with Erud's Crossing (all my first characters were on that side of the world) so I decided to try a PvP server and a different start location. Made a monk starting in freeport on Rallos Zek (assuming monks would be THE badass pvp class, I mean, they can fight just as well on corpse runs )The huge battles that took place between the level 1's at the EFP gates had me hooked. The dark elf level 1's came along and we chased them off, we then tried to organise a counter attack against Neriak and promptly got lost in Nek forest. Our groups were then attacked by various bears and our counter attack fell apart. So we stuck to defending ![]() After a week or so of being level 4 at the highest I decided to level up a bit. I refused to pk people at that point as I thought it was evil and unfair, after about a month of shouting "stop evil pk!" I began to grow bored again, so in a last act before I canceled my account I decided to randomly attack the next person I saw. I did that and was then hooked all over again ![]() This was just as RoK came out. I miss the old days of newb city wars /sniff |

| EQ was the first online game i ever played, I had just bought my own computer and i needed a game to play. So i seen this online game with some chick on the cover and decided to try it out. This was around Oct 99. I played for about 5 days with my clip plane all the way down hehe, didn't know you even could turn it up. Probably the moment that really got me was when i was working on the crafted armor quest for my warrior. I had to go to Permafrost for the boots hehe and get something from the king room. I zoned into Perma and there was a Vox raid going on, some level 50 took me down to King room where all these high level people where gathering for the fight. I was in tottal shock at all these people tearing up all the Ice Giants and shit, it was great. One of my friends was playing the other day for like the first time. Let him start his own level 1 and it was just funny watching him play when he'd see a higher level person and just see his jaw drop. Reminded me so much of myself. |
