Worth the switch?

I've been playing Everquest for quite some time now, I have put a lot of effort and time into my character. My question is, now that Shadowbane is upon us, it's full retail version in the hands of the masses, and most certainly some of yours as well, is it worth switching from Everquest to Shadowbane?

Shadowbane seems a different type of game completely when compared to Everquest. There doesn't seem to be the grind associated with Shadowbane... But I am neither a beta tester neither do I own the retail version of the game. This is just from what I've seen and heard.

From those of you who have tested and now own and pay for Shadowbane, what is your opinion? Is it really that great of a game to leave EQ for? Is it merely a distraction til the next incarnation of Everquest? Does it suck major dick?

I'm ready for something new, but I definitely don't want to screw myself over and waste cash on an abomination.

Honestly, wait a few months to see what direction they take with the game, so that you're not a victim of Asheron's Call 2-like gameplay.

The beta wasn't even that great, IMO.

Shadowbane is a very different game than Everquest unless you play on the zeks(pvp servers)

The simple difference lies in that the end game for EQ is to kill big uglies, and the end game for SB is to siege and be sieged.

Shadowbane is all about PvP, and EQ is all about PvM.

SB is 'not' an EQ killer, nor is it an EQ clone, it's just a new type of game that hopefully will give EQ competition in the 'MMO' market.

In fact it's concievable to play both EQ and SB interchangably, as their very different.

Part of the problem with SB, is the same problem every MMO has these days. On release, its still not finished. You would hope/think that the landscape had changed, but it has not. How SB evolves will make or break it, but its not for the faint of heart. PK will keep many people out.

SB is a nothing killer atm.

Fear them giving out other peoples credit card information when trying to register.

SB has a lot to prove. Can the feudal system be recreated in an online world? Will there be enough peace to give breaks between wars, or will it be constant warfare? Will one guild take over each server? Lots of different issues, but if it succeeds it really could be awesome.

The biggest concern I have atm is that it's very difficult to find a group for higher level encounters. The world is HUGE and you can't really go from camp to camp looking for a group like you can in EQ. You can do a /who and send a tell to people of similar level as you, but again they may be across the world from you and it may well be impossible to get to them. Just newbie island alone is huge and would take hours and hours to run across.

that CC # sharing is a feature, for griefing material down the road; not a bug!

Some people don't know what sarcasm is even when hit in the face with it, what a 'tard.

As far as the CC # being exposed... it's like that one poster said... "Lawyer time" if infact others use CC infos and can prove UBI has security leaks. Kinda scary IMO.

Hmmmm

I cannot believe you started a whole new discussion thread when there is a 250+ post thread of information on Shadowbane.

Read and use it. Practically every question possible was addressed.

and there are some people who theorize that the main guilds won't ever war with opponents.

Not on treachery! I'll make sure there's constant warfare.
