The other thing I'd like to see is the armor display correctly on old models if you mix and match. Currently, the Velious and newer armors do not show on old models if you have even one new model on. This sucks. My wizard owns a horse, so I have to have DE males on. However I *hate* the new trolls....and my poor troll warrior looks really bad..hos Thurg armor looks like bland whitish plate. Fix that and I'd be happy, or at least happier...

I absolutely hate the fact I need to have new models for a horse/slime creature. That is the only thing making me turn on the one gender/race model for both my accounts.

I would also buy an "expansion" for both my accounts if it included new animations and/or new models.

Mod?

Seing how most other games get modded (like the example with Morrowind), is it possible for some talented people to make improved models we could use in EQ?

They would obviously have to be very talented AND very upset with the current look, but technically is it possible to do?

The reason games like NWM can be modded is there is no file verification for the files modded. When you run the patcher if it does not have the exact checksum it downloads a new copy and overwrites it. I am almost going to guarantee that it is not possible to make the same exact checksum after you modify it and recompile it. Also games like NWN were designed to be modified and so tools are out there to do the job with ease. I am not familiar with EQ's models and am guessing they are probably made with 3DS or something similiar which the normal every day hobbyist modeller does not have a copy of. I paid $500 for my copies of 3DS 1.0 - 3.0 and that was because I was working for a non-profit organization at the time.

They will never let people do mods themselves for something like that because you know the day after there would be mods to make things easier. Like making models have a wireframe around them showing their max melee range etc. It is hugely exploitable if they gave out the full details of how it all works.

Think of the cheating that goes on with Counterstrike with mods like that which make you see through walls or be invisible.

I can't believe you people are willing to pay for fixed models. Yes fixed. Releasing unoptimised pos models and animations in an already paid for expansion, then billing us a second time to have them actually look decent and run well....the guys at SOE are laughing HARD all the way to the bank reading this thread.

I really like the High Elf female model. I hope they dont screw with it.

My only major complaint is how the hair just sorta cuts into any armor that it intersects.

Come on guys, do you really think SOE is going to spend the time and money to fix something this old? With the approach of EQ2, you will be lucky if they ever finish fixing all the minor bugs and shit zones in the game let alone fix something they think they "fixed" 2 expansions ago.
EQ2 doesn't have anything to do with this. It's a separate team.

Upcoming games, no matter who makes them, are the very reason this team should FIX the animations.

.

One thing that annoys me WAY more than it should about SoL models is how the idle pose/animations are all fucking action poses. Even if they were semi decent action poses (which they obviously aren't) this is an idiotic idea for a mmorpg. The only time i want my character to lok like he's a 50's era Batman about to KAPOW some striped shirt goons is... wait, i don't EVER want my character to look like that.

And to the guy saying we are morons for being willing to pay for new models/animations... seriously, after a year and a half do you think their's any other way it's going to get done?

The most time consuming thing in computer animation is creating the actual models (including textures, bone structure, kinematics, etc.). Once the models are complete animating them is fairly easy and doesn't take much time compared to actually making the model.

With that in mind, for Sony to redo only the animations wouldn’t take long. Depending on their software, one person could probably finish redoing all the animations for one model in one day. Put 3 animators and a tester on it, you’re finished in 1-2 weeks. Release them for optional download around the time Shadowbane goes live (to tuck the expenses under the “motivating the player base to stay with EQ” rug).

Optimizing the models would require a bit more work. Most likely some of the textures would need to be redone and or modified, which means you’re going to need artists.

Completely redoing all of the models AND animations would take quite a bit of time and resources. I don’t foresee them doing this without charging for it. Mayhaps they will add it as a “feature” in the next “extension.”

Personally, although some of models are quite disproportional, I’d be happy if they just fixed the animations. I can live with unoptimized and semi-shity looking models as long as they don’t fucking poke things with their two hander. Until then, I will continue playing with all luclin models off.

How about if the next 'extension' is just SOE fixing their major screwups with one or two new zones and maybe a new class (to attract the 'Oooh. Shiny!' crowd)?
Fix animations of Luclin models and optimise them, hell...fix Luclin full stop, add a couple of L61-65 zones and add (oh, I don't know) a wizard-rogue hybrid.

Would you pay $10-15 for it?

"and add (oh, I don't know) a wizard-rogue hybrid."

No no...its gotta be a bard-rogue hybrib that they will be the Harper class.

And I would pay 10 - 15 for them to fix all the fucked up zones (IA for example) and add new models (fix the damn half elfs)/animations.

I don't think exploiting would be a huge problem if they screened properly those entering a modelling contest like I mentioned above. You know, like give examples of your past work, etc. Then once the people have the tools/info supplied by verant how to create new models or animations, they make their models, whichever one wins is it, thats the model we use, no more modding by the playerbase. SoE wouldn't have to allow mass modding, only the player models that they specified could be altered, and only the contest winning submissions would be allowed into the game.

I'm not any kind of expert on exploiting models, but I think if people submitted their models to soe, and soe compiled them or whatever they have to do, and only let those be the files modified, you wouldnt have problems with stuff being altered by the playerbase...

Perhaps I'm not being clear here... If not I apologize... I don't see how exploiting would be a problem if measures were put in place to prevent it.

Sony sanctioned?

Maybe you could have "Sony Sanctioned" mods, legal to download after they have been checked for exploits?

Still would be unsupported by Sony if you chose to use them, but dedicated modders could get working on sounds, graphic etc.
With 450k users, there has to be some really talented people out there that could give EQ a nice workover.

And yes, I would pay 10 - 15 USD for an update of models, textures and some optimization.

Guess that makes me a sad person
