Leave it to SoE to screw up a good idea with maelin

I will give SoE some credit, they realized that a ton of servers were hugely overcrowded so they made the move to add another server. Sure it cost money but the days of free split servers are over, I think everyone realized that. But now I hear the great minds of SoE are thinking of extending the deadline to transfer to the new server until the 19th. In case you haven't got the TPS memo there are already like 5 high end pop guilds on the server. So many level 65's moved over you already see new guilds popping up simply because there isn't enough room in other guilds to support them. The only people that are moving are level 65's. Call it a success and shut down the transfers. The new server was suppose to help overcrowding not cause it, people didn't pay $75 to move into a worse situation.

If you really must extend it, make it so only level 55 players and below can move. The amount of high level people on the server compared to everyone else is insane. Maelin now will probably rival the most crowded servers out there at the high end game, way to go SoE, only you could mess up trying to help overcrowding.

Blame SoE? or blame yourselves for dilluting the situation thinking "only we will take this route to escape the overcrowding on our home server, noone else will!". Get real, and grats for falling into the money trap they laid out for ya.

Yeah seriously dude, you aren't the only one that had that good idea, duh! I made a rogue on there just to goof around and have some fun before all the high level guilds started moving over, which I knew would happen (no, I'm not psychic), and how did I know? Because they all had that same "good" idea, to switch to the new server, because "no one else is gonna do it!" and therefor gain more "room to breath" in the high-end PoP content. Think again sir! Anyways, /flame off, I'm done!

That's why they should reduce the spawn timers and loot drops on certain mobs!

haha like I care I don't play EQ...

right!

But I had that opinion when I still played EQ, probably because I enjoyed raiding more than getting loot...

Grats Sony on 200k for plugging a machine in....

Seriously, A new server is a cool thing but to expect that only one high end guild is going to move in and enjoy EQ Spawn heaven is ridiculous,And it is even more ridiculoous to blame sony for this...

The best part of all this is next week Sony could announce another server with the exact same rules for moving to it ,Full gear 75 bucks,And they would still have 3+ Elemental guilds moving to it thinking no one else will go for fear of what happened on Maelin, and then grats Sony for another 200k ...

I think it is a valid point though.

People were told "transfers will be allowed until X date" and thought about it for a while, scoured some message boards and came up with "Ok, if we do move as a guild, we can expect 3-4 other guilds that would be similar in power. We might get screwed but hey, we *are* screwed as things stand now so let's give it a shot." Now it seems they want to make the date further down the road, allowing more power-gamers in and almost certainly causing more problems.

Look, they could add another server and garner a chunk of cash based on the same idea. No one would argue. To extend the deadline on the one server they have allowed under this ruleset is bullshit though and is something worth calling them on.

I know what Aubry is pissed about though and I'll take a pass on the particulars. I've been retired for a few months now after all. I am still a little surprised though, I figured Sony would want this one to be a huge carrot for future pay-to-split services.

You're right.. SOE needs to create a server for every 2nd rate guild for each server so they can be happy.

I do love the way about 7 guilds simultaneously screamed "hey, let's move straight to the new server! We'll be able to have all the mobs to ourselves, with no competition!"

The old cutoff wasn't until the 15th anyways. Therefore, by moving at any time before the 15th, the guilds had to be prepared for other people to move there as well after they did. By the way, today is still only the 13th.

You're point might be valid if people moved there at the last moment with the assumption nobody else could move afterwards, but that's not the case. The guilds there jumped at the chance to move, the cutoff date had absolutely nothing to do with it. If they had announced originally it would end on the 19th, the same people that moved this time would have gone anyways.

Well IMO the root of the problem seem to be the elemental planes cannot comfortably support more than 2-3 guilds.

Having entire guilds willing to pay 75$ to escape the 5-guilds-in-ele-plane servers seem to demonstrate very well how bad the situation on those servers must have been.

And given how easily zergable the encounters leading up to elemental planes access are, having 3-5+ guilds in the elemental planes will be reality on ALL servers in a not too distant future.

Not really sure how they can fix it. I guess one can only hope that once PoT is opened up, that it will contain a LOT of time-sucking encounters to free up the other elemental planes for the guilds below the PoT guild.

Alternatively they could beef up RZ again, and stop the flow of new guilds into elemental planes, although I am sure that wouldnt be too popular hehe

First of all today's the 12th, unless you're living in the Australia/NZ part of the world. Secondly the transfers were always said to be open from March 5 to March 12.

This limited time offer will be available from March 5, 2003, through March 12, 2003, or until the new server fills up (so get your requests in early!).

Of Course, $ony did add the ever-popular disclaimer that they could modify the agreement at any time. I am sure people on 5+ elemental plane servers were a bit worried about getting moved before they got locked out.
