| Beta testers don't always count. Have to worry about the l33t 12 year olds grabbing daddy's CC in walmart or some other crappy store so they and their friends can PK. Does it matter to a 12 year old (or a 40 year old with the mentality of a 12 year old) if they are disliked? EQ has had TONNES of people who were HATED by 98% of their servers, yet most of them played until they finally got caught for the 100th time and SoE banned them. Alot just rerolled or stole another toon and went back the same old shit. Unless SB is willing to ban griefers on a very short notice, then SB is going to have a griefer problem. I bet the SZ assholes (and bluebie fucks) are salavating about all the exploits they will be able to find to kill casual_player_29982 looking to try out a non-fantasy pvp game. I personally think, they have been just asking for every griefer who ever griefed in a mmog to log on and show off their l33t talents. PL'ing twinks to high levels as PK fodder. Guilds of assholes purposely going after casual guilds hometowns. Then again, I've hated PvP since UO. Nothing like naked wizards following you around waiting for you to lag out or groups of them camping the gateway to a city to PK you as you come back laden with treasure. Wasn't so bad once you made friends and got higher levels, but how many people will say "fuck it" before they ever get to that level? |

PvP and PvE don't mix. Try to do a game that has both, and you have major problems. Being forced to endure PvE (read "level") to go and PvP is bad. Being forced to endure PvP (read "being ganked") while you're doing PvE is bad. The frontier thing in DAoC reduced the 2nd part. It did not do anything about the 1st part.

I was very, VERY quickly driven away by grief PK in UO. I don't know how anyone could stand playing that game. Then again, since they eased up on that stupidity, it was obvious most people WEREN'T paying so someone could get their jollies.. Last edited by Iannis : 03-08-2003 at 02:54 PM.

What I'm saying is, if a game is designed from the ground up with PvP as it's focus (which SB is) then checks and balances can be thoroughly incorporated into the system. Rewards and punishments can be effectively distributed, both by the game itself and the society created by the players, to add to these checks and balances. If you don't want to be griefed, band together with the hundreds of others that also don't want to be griefed. If you want to grief, band together with the hundreds of others that want to grief. Blah...too long. Anyway. I'm excited about SB. Hopefully it works well enough in the first 2 to 6 months so that people stick around long enough to enjoy it when it's finished ![]()

| I dont know how it'll be in final, however in beta this is what happens to shit talking griefer guilds and the single greifers are usually killed, over, and over, and over, and over... by other players. r30s are the Rolling 30's the core membership of which is made up of Sinister (a guild on rallos i believe) and the guild I am a member of currently. For an example of the time invested here that me and my guildmates destroyed (yah can't see em in that pic because they're on the other side of town mopping up shit it takes around 2.5 weeks and 20 or 30 million gold (prolly, just guessing from my expierince with city management, which is some, but not as much as city architects, etc..) to build the city, rank up all the buildings, merchants, and trainers, and for all the building upkeep costs, hireling salaries, etc. This guild, however, is pretty persistant and I don't think many of them quit when we destroyed their town, but its not unheard of for entire guilds to quit beta because their town was destroyed (happened this beta build in fact, i believe, to a guild called Nex Imperium)Griefers don't last in SB beta, however, it may be different in final. Also as far as the leveling treadmill goes. A power gamer can get level 59 ( the last level, currently, that you recieve skill points and attribute points) in about 4 to 5 days max. However I'd say in final it'll be made a little slower, but nowhere near EQ levels. Yes you get PK'ed while exp'ing, its part of the game, and you get used to it, but in beta it really doesn't happen much. A guild usuall protects their hunting grounds, groups are 10 strong, and soloing doesn't happen too much. So getting your whole group ganked by a couple people? Won't happen much in this game. However, this game all but forces you to be a member of a player run guild, which is nice (at level 20 you get basically booted of the newbie island, or rather you go errant, which means you respawn at basically random locations, which are called ruins, all around the map, the same happens at level 35 in the GM run cities, and you can't repledge to them. The GM run cities are possible to get to, however the "newbie" island is impossible to get to past level 20, once you're off of it, which could happen the next time you die, PvP is not part of the newbie island)

| I hope SB does well simply so it keeps Verant on their fucking toes. Hopefully they'll have to put a little more thought and effort into EQ now that there is a serious competitor out there, instead of charging $20 for expansions that give more bank space and let you play Frogloks. |

| Sinister Man - never thought I'd see the name sinister again. I remember them from Morell-Thule too, back in the RA vs CoTU/SiN days. Bone Dancer - Bone sounds familiar, I think he played a barb rogue named Razir. Also was Xune, Marle, Jaxon, Ceps/Spec. Way oldschool. Last I heard was they quit eq mainly after we had a huge fall out, most played Counterstrike for awhile, and some played DaoC. I remember them always talking about shadowbane though. Shadowbane was gonna be their place to really shine. Looks like they accomplished that. Kudos |
