Maelin Starpyre Transfers, Be Wary

I am not sure who came up with the policies regarding the Maelin Starpyre transfers but I find it pretty funny. They come up with a way to get $75 from people to move with gear and then they make it insanely hard to take advantage of the service.

Do you use game cards so you need to use someone elses credit card to pay for the move? Move denied. Was your account registed by a roomate 2 years ago when you first started playing and now you want to move? Denied. Were you a minor when you started playing EQ so the account is in a family members name and now you are trying to pay for a move with your credit card? Move denied. Are you short on funds so you get some help from someone to pay for the transfer using their credit card, you provide all cd keys all credit card info? Move denied. I dunno who is in charge of this over at SoE but it needs to be looked into, the amount of imformation some people are being asked to provide seems rather ridiculous. Now you have guilds moving and members are getting left (people who want to pay $75 but SoE wont take it) out in the cold stuck on an old server.

Well....I have a feeling that a lot of guilds/people will wanna move there all at once. Less people there is less people there lol.

I think SoE should come out with a bunch of servers at once to move to, not just one at a time. I bet a lot of peeps going to move there expecting to be free from competition on mobs and going to have to compete 4 times as hard as their old server lol.

Actually they should come out with one each month (roughly) and eventually the server population on the older servers will thin out enough that they can combine them with other servers (insert some lame Verant excuse here).

So basically people shuffle around and get nothing from it but Verant gets the 75$ per transfer (that would add up quick for people with multiple accounts). Heck, I bet a large percentage of the player base would be none the wiser. Hrm ... perhaps I don't give enough credit to the players as they certainly could not be lured into such trickery.

Hah .... yeeeaaahh riiight.

You would think it would be all about the money, but like I stated above some people are having a hard time getting SoE to take their money and move them. For the people we have had moved though other problems have come up. Namely missing gear that was obtained long ago. People missing things like Halo of the Enlightened, Boots of the Storm, etc... When they contact a GM about it they refuse to even look up the problem. It's the old "if you obtained items recently they won't move" and they literally refuse to check. That is if you can even find a GM, I don't think any guilds have even been formed on the server. We had a petition in the que for 12 hours no GM.

Be happy.

They might take your money and move you to La-la land.

This happened to a couple of persons I know. They wanted the move, their character disappeared from the original server... and never showed up. Anywhere.

One month after, they are still sending emails (they refuse to spend 1ct on phone call) daily to try to get this resolved. I suppose for a couple that this will end up with cancelled accounts, as a level 65 AA-ed cleric, VTkeyed, FT15 stuffed, tier-3 flagged 's loss isn't acceptable.

I wasn't denied. I am on the server right now. The problem is the guild I am in decided to move and a good amount of guild members are running into these problems. It's very frustrating to make this choice as a guild and then realize there is a very good chance a good chunk of the guild may never make it over.

From talking to other guilds on Maelin it doesn't seem isolated. A lot of guilds are having big problems ensuring everyone who wants to move ends up actually moving.

hi

heard from a senior Gm that the transfer is almost full now, so if you and your friends go to transfer...some might not make it

opening up a new server costs a good quarter of a million, they won't do it every month =)

how could it cost a quarter of a mil?

buy new server, buy new hampsters to power server, name it, charge, download eq on it and charge $75 per person

20k users at $75 a piece = $1,500,000

Talk about some profit.

(yeah I know it will be more like 2k which is only $150,000 which is still a good chunk of change for an automated script with little to no human interaction whatsoever)

Uh, just like the post above ....

5k users * 75$ = $375,000

(don't think 5k is that unreasonable as it would only be 3k at peak times)

I can very easily see them do it on a regular basis. Obviously what I mentioned in my last post was somewhat of a conspiracy theory but from the money grubbing people at Verant I wouldn't put those tactics beyond them.

If they could up the capacity of newer servers and have the users foot the bill then it's a win win situation. Then they can merge the older servers and probably in the long run end up with fewer servers and more people per server.

Combine this we some better zones to space people out more and there you go. Heck, you can sprinkle some good drops here and there to lull everyone into compliance and like I said before I doubt anyone would be the wiser.

Wonder at what number they consider a server full? Wasn't it like 8k for legends? Thats a nice chunk of change at $75 per. I forsee a bunch more of these in the near future. Well, atleast until they can't fill a server up, but with the crowding in the high game being what it is, I bet they can fill up several more without running out of people.

eventually there would be so many servers that the transfer rates would drop to like 1k-2k each time making it sorely not worth it
