LoY and the new zones being released.

Now that LoY is released and they are finally retouching/revamping older content, does that mean this will be the last expansion for EQ? My guess is that they are just going to have a few people work on the older zones in EQ 1 and concentrate more on EQ 2's release. That being said, I hope they continue to push more content for the higher end players so the game can continue to keep its fan base. I really wish Verant would of done what UO did and just cancel out on EQ 2 and push more expansions for EQ 1.

They will keep pumping out expansions till the game no longer makes any money.

Simple as that. EQ will never end as long as there's money to be made.

They will keep EQ going like your grandmother on life support while they pump out the new super infant of hte world referred to as "EQ2."

While many will be comforting comatose grandma, a majority of the hoard will flock to marvel at the new baby jesus and while jesus grows, grandma's condition will continue to get worse until they finally pull her plug.

Are you retarded? Did you even look at the interviews with the dev team recently? I'm willing to bet there will be droves of expansions, or "extensions" as they call them now.

Plane of Time exploration is near, so the need for another high end expansion draws closer.

One of the most interesting and reassuring things I learned that day was that SOE has no plans to end EverQuest. None. While many of us have been seeing EQ2 as an intended migration path for EQ players, that's not the company's intent. Rod Humble pointed out how competition from other games has only ever made EQ stronger and gain more subscribers. Rather than positioning EQ2 as something that takes away from the original, it's intended to be an alternate game that is designed to appeal both to existing players and to those who may have tried the original EverQuest and didn't like it.

I still think EQ2 will have a bigger impact upon EQ's player base than any RPG released so far, and I think SOE will be smart enough to encourage existing players to try the new game while still keeping their classic EQ accounts open (can you say "package deal"?), but it's obvious that the company intends both games to be vital.

The team made it clear that more expansions are definitely on the way for EverQuest. In fact, there was a meeting that very day discussing some possibilities, but the team wasn't allowed to talk about it. Nor would they answer any questions about EQ2, despite my best efforts to weasel responses out of them. Cagey bastards!

See the trick is not to close down eq for eq 2. The trick is to keep eq's player base and also have them play eq2.

But despite the fact that EQ will remain running, many of the high end players will either quit for EQ2 or quit all together. I think that a great deal of the more well known and highly skilled players on all our servers will be dissappearing.

The launch of EQ2 will be seen as a way for many ppl to escape the drug that is Evercrack.

Not that many.

Some will do, but there are people who have 4 years invested in EQ, that aren't going to quit until they've "finished" EQ. For whatever "finished" definition they're using.

The trick is to judge what future expansions will bring to the high end game. If the merest hint of high-end slowing down appears, then you'll get a stampede toward the stores.
