| ... I have been in Shadowbane beta for a few moths now and you should be glad it got delayed. It started out kinda "bleh" but it is turning out to be a very good game. It is in its near final form, and all I got so say is its a HELL-UVA-GAME. Believe me, SB is worth investing in. Between PvP, cities, and a system to keep inflation in check without item decay, it friggin rocks. |

| when i hit the sb beta the game was rough, half the classes werent finished, city system was being toyed with, no such thing as lore or quests, mobs were hard to find and semi-easy to exploit. server stability was a joke. that was a little more then half a year ago. since then the game has fleshed out a lot better, things are getting fixed and they really have gone the extra mile to make it a better game. give it a chance. if anyone remembers DAoC in early beta, it was ass...it eventually fleshed out too. the release was a little shakey and there were still things to be fixed but the game came out well for the audience it was targeted towards. the same is what i expect from SB, a great came for people who prefer larger guilds and that sense of community while stilll enjoying pvp.

| I waited for like 2.5 years to get in the shadowbane beta. I was thinking that the game would be the messiah of mmorpgs. Few weeks ago I get in to beta and almost shit my self. Sadly, I lost interest in the game after about 2 weeks. I really did want to like shadowbane, but it just felt like it had no 'substance'. I can't really put my finger on what turned me off. It's probally a combination of the point and click moving, the fact that there is no depth to the world(no lore, no quests, boring landscapes, feels very bare), graphics are lacking. It bascially feels like a game that should have come out like 3 years ago. It just didn't have the 'magic' that I'm used to when I start playing a mmorpg. The whole guild/city/nation system is nice, but it looks like all it comes down to is endless farming of gold to build up your city. The pvp is a little bit more stratigic then other games, but the whole movement and camera system is awkward. Some people will like it, people will play it, but a lot of people are going to be turned off after getting used to playing games like EQ. Shadowbane doesn't feel 'solid' at all, lag has a huge impact on the game. If you lag or the server lags, it makes it unplayable. Even if their retail servers are amazing, the game isnt 'solid' like EQ is, spells can take variable times to cast depending on lag, unlike EQ which has it's spell timer bar. It's even worse then trying to pvp in UO with a 28.8 modem. Lag issues aside, assuming they can fix all that by retail(which btw, shadowbane WILL be released on march 25th) it still seems to be lacking. I had such high hopes for it too... ![]() |

Mythic is making a profit, therefore its not a "flop". It is an indication that this is not a total zero sum game. The goal of any company with their product is to make a profit, and return that to shareholders, blah, blah, blah There can be more than one MMORPG. It didn't destroy EQ (I don't think that's the goal, the goal is $$$), but DAoC is doing fine, despite, as I said before, being so boring it makes my DNA hurt. | |

| Shadowbane perfect? not so fast... If I remember correctly, people were saying DAoC's PVP system was the best thing since sliced bread, then it turned out to be crap. Now people say the same thing about Shadowbane, I think a 'let's wait and see' attitude will be more appropriate this time around. Shadowbane has more of a chance of failure than a success at this point, It's gotta be pretty damn earth shattering for EQ players to leave in masses. The only thing guaranteed to hurt EQ server populations is EQ2. -pok |
