Question Question about file transfers...

I am getting a new computer very soon and am wandering about how to put files from the old comp on the new one. My old one does not have a burner, so that is out of the question.

My old comp does however have USB ports. Is there any mechanism I can use to send files between comps via USB ports?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Send a message via AIM to Guild Lackey
Place any files you want to transfer in a folder and share it by right clicking on the folder and clicking "share." Then on the new comp go to your network, find the shared folder and copy all the shit.

Use norton ghost and make a complete copy of your old system to a usb drive or a drive in a removable hard drive dock thing.

Or just take the hard drive out of your old computer and use as a slave drive in new computer.

I have the docks on all my 6 computers and have one drive as back up anytime there is a computer problem I just copy the whole back up drive to the computer with the problem using norton ghost. This has saved me tons of times troubleshooting problems.

it's safe to assume you have an ethernet card in both machines so I think the easiest way would be to go to your local computer store, pick up an ethernet crosswired cable and connect both machines together via network card. Then set up a private lan between the two and use the file manager to copy stuff over.

That's the lowest cost way I can think of.

You don't need a hub if only doing 2 machines.

He already has a hub. All he has to do is share and then copy and drag the files.

actually...

actually the lowest cost method would be to do what someone already said... take the HD out of your old machine, set it as a slave in your new one, and then copy all the files you want on the new machine over to your desired location. Then you can switch the HD back out to the old machine and be set.
