Angry please help, really f00kin annoying problem...

I have a Microsoft Intellimouse (USB and PS2 compatible) mouse that will randomly stop and "freeze"... but will unfreeze a few moments later. Its bad for EQ, but R-E-A-L-L-Y bad for shooters. Anyone know how to fix this intermittent freezing? Sometimes the little hourgflass thingy will come up to... but its the mouse, because my other mouse hasn't had any problems. Thanks in advance!

I use the same mouse and at one time had the same problem. At first goofing off, I recreated the problem by turning the mouse upside down. My cursor would freeze, the hourglass would pop-up, and the mouse wouldn't move.

If you're using the USB connection when the cursor stops moving, see if the optical light turns off. Chances are the connection (cable, USB connector, or conection inside the mouse) is fubar'd and it is losing connection to the computer. The mouse freezes because it's "no longer connected" and a second later when it clicks back on, because of USB it just starts back up. I got the little "ding dong" noise like a new connection had been discovered.

And I still have the same dumb mouse. I just fiddle with the cable end going into the front of the mouse and it's good for a few days, then I fiddle with it again.

If it doesn't turn out to be related to the mouse, look at your background processes. Any kind of software running in the background getting cpu time can greatly disrupt 3d games.

Adware/spyware garbage can cause this kind of thing. Try scanning with Ad-Aware ( http://www.lavasoftusa.com/aaw.html ) if you haven't already. Scandisk, scan for viruses, check for windows updates, and driver updates to all the pieces of your system.

Hope that helps.

Happend On a Mouse of Mine

Just got rid of the old mouse and got a new Optical. Like someone else said, think it has to do with a loose connection in the cord.

Optical mouses have to be the greatest thing in the world, anyone not using one should really look at getting one. Beats cleaning the rollers on your mouse every 2 months (or as I used to do, throw it out and buy a new one).
