Requiem,

When you say things like, "Class dismissed." and "Thank you, drive through.", you seriously undermine the posistion you are arguing from. It makes you sound like a "15-year-old-nerd-playing-with-linux-for-the-first-time's home page with lots of "cool links" and some Final Fantasy midi's..."

Drunck if you took the time to read his post instead of focusing on the end you'd know that you are a freakin idiot who has no idea what he is talking about.

We use a good deal of both. Web servers running on Microsoft, most(not all) of the databases running in Unix/ZOS.

We have around 900ms boxes and 300Unix boxes 14zos boxes.

I don't think you should count on one or the other, they each have their places.

No, he doesn't, because the position he is arguing from is solid. People just are not reading Requiem's posts carefully and are making incorrect assumptions on which they are building their arguments. And people are letting their dislike of Microsoft as a company affect their judgment about the products.

Add in all this downtime to those superior performance numbers (0 hits/sec for how long now?) that MS products have.

Your crack about vi displays your complete ignorance about UNIX privileges.

Your targetting argument holds little water, remember that Apache rules the www server world, and how many exploits for apache come out vs IIS? Yeah.

MS products rely on a huge marketing budget rather than technical excellence to sell.
Gratz, man, I had to register just to fucking rip you apart.
Anyone else imagine those dudes from the commercials "Now you can get your diploma at home, with many exciting careers to choose from: Paralegal Assistant, Medical Transcription, TV/VCR Repair, l3#t hX0r"

Seriously, I got a big boner too when I was in the dorm room setting up my friends alpha (woah GIGABYTES of THROUPUT#!#!), but nothing like the cold hand of reality to bitchslap you when you realize there's a big bad world of people who are *fucking geekier than you can imagine* who are coordinating billion dollar networks.

That shit *REQUIRES* MS.

I understand that because you used a brute force "pr0gz" and reset your registration key via the built in customer service "reset your registration key" option in order to "total onw SP-2" of your XP home that you think Ms is fucking clueless and shitty, yehh "my mediaplayer rotating dragon skin doesn't work" and I suppose that's a fair assessment
if you can't fathom what adults do when they leave you at the nursery but holy christ please shut the fuck up.

Can't you realize that there is an old boys network of 50 year olds with silver hair that use IIS to rake in 2-commas $bling, bling, bling.bling? Trust me, for every Jethro Tull fan who had diarreah because his gift-basket distribution site he bought from eBay got hax3rz there are a dozen 4 generations of men with a hyphenated last name sipping Poggio all'Oro on a yacht laughing at you.

If you had the right friends in highschool/college (and spent less time playing Magic:The Gathering with your bi-wyccan girlfriend) you could have easily started a b2b/b2c enterprising comp. based solely on repurposing *NEARLY* off the shelf MS products with a healthy dose of smaller apache-ish solutions for the homesector side of things.

Please, next time you need to pool chemical shipments from 87 countries and send all of the CEOs and their wives a "You are cordially invited to wire my Zurich acct." note explain to your client the nuances of how your /cgi-bin/web_countr.pl is rulest...

...sigh... people talk such SHIT.

To quote Chris Farley from Tommy Boy:

"I've seen some crazy stuff in my time, but that... was... AWESOME!!! Oh, sorry about your car, man."

That was by far the best flame I have seen in a long time. Thanks Frott

Requiem,

for fuck sakes man use more paragraphs if you are going to make a point, all that babble is useless otherwise.

You may be perfectly happy running your garbage MS servers but me I got sick of being paged 3 times a week and rebooting MS servers almost daily, switched to Free BSD and poof, every problem went away.

Good luck to you.

Maybe if you took the time to actually FIX what was causing your server to fuck up instead of just rebooting it like 9/10th's of the other dumbass server admin's. You wouldn't have that problem.

I did fix it. I removed win2k from the critical parts of the business which simply was not working out for us financially.

I don't hate MS, I just don't like It. I find it difficult to use and difficult to maintain, if others feel different, that's fine.

It is my opinion that MS software is 'garbage' for the Enterprise which is why they are losing market share. MS Server software has always been an afterthought, their real strength is the PC always has been and always will be. MS knows that if they can dominate the Enterprise, it'll make their stranglehold on the PC that much stronger.

MS is very good at protecting their monopoly, their game is to dominate all parallel markets. Look at the XBox, it's a complete loss financially but perhaps one day the PC will be dead (it's dying a slow death fyi) and the Xbox will be there to take over.

PDAs, Cellphones, Tablet PC's are all losing markets for Microsoft but could pay out later on if the market changes.

I apologize for calling Microsoft 'garbage' as that is how I see it but I shouldn't label it as so, like I said if you are happy with it, good luck!
