The game seems pretty cool. It has a simcity feel to it, the way you build up your camp and what not. It does involve a lot of tedious tasks though, and it takes an unbelieveable amount of time to get from place to place. Feels like running from Qeynos to Freeport over and over again.

I started playing it a few days ago when it got linked here, and I love it. It is a little hard to get started, especially if you don't have a mentor, but once you get the hang of it it is really fun. It definately isn't a game for everyone, though. Like someone said, if you enjoy tradeskills in EQ, you will probably love this game. I think the graphics are great. The character models could use a little work (great animations, but the faces suck), and the terrain could use a few new textures. Right now its basically just 2 types of grass, rock, sand, and water. Other than that, graphics are fine and I get 0 lag, which is very impressive considering how big of an area you are looking at. I only have 2 qualms with the game. The first is the retardedly huge size of it. When you first start out you have to run to a few universaries to learn some basic skills. If you don't do this, you can only progress to a certain point. It took me about 2 and a half hours to make my run. That's like running back and forth across the karanas 10 times :-\ Fortunately, you really only need to do this once. After you have the basic skills, you can go to schools (there is a difference between schools and unis.) to learn your subesquent skills. Schools are much more numerous than unis and you shouldnt have to travel more than 10 minutes to get to one. My second qualm is a sort of lack of direction for the game. You start the game and you HAVE to either have someone direct you through the first few steps (there are a lot of "mentors" though. one of the quests in the game involves teaching newbies how to play so lots of people do it) or read a guide on their site. You can't just jump in and start playing, you need help. Once you learn the basics, you're set loose on the world and you really don't know what you're supposed to do next. I didn't have a mentor, so maybe I had it rougher than most people, I don't know. It took me a while, but I learned the ropes and now I'm moving right along.

The good news are people are now finally getting some new ideas into games. So far most online games released that went commerical have been very close to EQ in terms of kill/loot/lvl etc.. One day might merge the two and make a great game.

Like I said I enjoy the game, and the idea of a total tradeskill type game, but not for 14 bucks a month, thats just too much to pay, I wouldnt pay that for EQ and I sure as hell wont pay it for a game with no action, and no easy form or social interaction. A few things I thik the game needs before it would be worth paying 12 bucks a month. I dont think any game in the near future will be worth paying 14/month for 1) A regional chat, there are 5 regions I think even though the world is seamless 2) Global chat, so you can find people with the items you need to trade for 3) Mode of tansportation besides walking for 4 hours(Thats how long it takes to walk from the northern end to the southern end of the world, so twice that if you are just making a trade run. 4) Better Interface for working with the tools. If they added those I might(Stress might) pay 12 bucks a month for it.

| Hi Let me first point out that we are currently still in beta. Fucking beta. Remember how far EQ has progressed since phase 3 beta? All the things that were broken are still broken in some cases, no shit, but a lot of it has been fixed. If you didn't download it, shut the fuck up. Don't worry, I laughed when I saw the screenshots here too. The windows in ATITD are a pita to use, and they are plagued with memory leaks and whatnot. They are big and ugly, and they tell me to worship the devil. They are going to be fixed. The game world is huge, and that is an understatement. It is enormous. I estimate all the land of EverQuest would make up maybe 3% of the land you can cover in this game. There are two reasons for this. One, when release comes out, there will be people playing. They will want to build a nice little camp in their own little corner of Egypt, so there must be enough space for everyone. Much of the land mass is undeveloped as of now (beta) though (no trees, water, etc.). Two, the world (don't quote me on this) seems to be on a huge ratio with it's real life counterpart. I would say 1:1 or maybe 1:2 (game:real). I suppose this adds to realism. While I like this game, I think it is kind of gay to have to run 16 hours to get to the region someone I know from EQ started in (no I didn't do it). Tradeskills, tradeskills, tradeskills. What the fuck? I searched for this word in the ATITD forums and it came up twice. Using the word tradeskills implies you take on a class of some sort (blacksmith, tailor, alchemist, etc.), which does not happen in the least in ATITD. You have one character, and your reputation is on the line. Screw it up and you are truly screwed, you can only solo so far without trading. You start with dirt, grass, wood, slate, and silt. Right now we finished our first "deep well", and are extracting petroleum from it. It IS a long journey to get to that level of play, though. Anyone remember the old SNES or GameBoy game Harvest Moon? I fucking loved (<3) that game, and I love ATITD. You might too, give it a shot. Here is a small analogy. EQ is an MMOG. ATITD is an MMORPG, maybe a MMOSG or something. S for sim, ancient school Egypt sim. Now for the quotes! Quote:

| I downloaded it, played several hours, didn't really see anyone else in that time. Played it the next day, eh, it was somewhat amusing, but not amusing enough to play every day. I dislike it for the same reason I disliked the sims. . . there's just not enough seperation between the game and RL. Processing flax and raising beetles just for the sake of some university exam is not my fantasy.

When I get to character creation, a fatal error occurs and then the egenesis thing just closes on me. One time I got to enter a name and password, then hit the male icon for sex, and it froze my computer. Anyone know the problem?

The game looks like it has some interesting aspects, but I couldn't get into it after a few hours. Doubtless some of the bugs are part of the problem. Of course, since I quit EQ I have the attention span of a 5 year old, but that's another thread. -Saleem

You can actually kill stuff, but I won't tell you how. It's not all that exciting anyway. Also, tradeskills from EQ or DAOC or any other game have nothing on ATITD. This game and tradeskills have exactly nothing in common, there is no "standing in one place and clicking 100000 times for a skill up", and the fact that there are no real "levels" in this game are what attract me to it. After I quit EQ I got a life, and therefore I don't have much time to play games anymore. The one thing I don't like about this game is that if you have retards in your guild, they will fuck things up for you to no end. I suppose this is true for all games, though. The "fatal error" issue. I don't know what causes this, but I got it a few times while I was playing. I had no trouble creating a character, though.

login in if your having trouble logging in or have a ton of lag, make sure you have nothingrunning in the background (go to taskmanager and check if theres anything on there, you know ctrl-alt-del) and if the login thing seems really really slow and when you click stuff it takes 5mins to happen, try going to the atitd folder and launch the game using eclientc. /chat zapron if you need some help in the game.
