Even just class based is misleading, and unfair. Every raiding guild is going to have a larger pecent of 'plate' classes than 5/15 = 33% would indicate; your staple cleric+tank classes are probably closer to 40% of most guilds.

My feeling is armor distributions are a lot more like:
40% Plate
17.5% Chain
17.5% Leather
25% Caster

However, this kind of balancing shouldn't even be needed. Verant did a good thing when they moved to multi-class drops... and they should just push it all the way: armor turn ins should be useful for anyone.

I don't see any reason why the 'recipe' couldn't change (or a new one added!)... recipe's and quest turn ins have changed before. Its probably not even a coding change... some guy could probably log into the database and change it.

Leather drops are imbalanced in their current form yes, they should have been equal to chain, slightly less than silk, and significantly less than plate. We have 2-3 pieces of leather that will be rotting the next time they drop because all the guild's primaries, and all the flagged monk, druid and beastlord twinks all have too.

Agree

with Merauk. The class component should be removed entirely from all elemental armor molds.

The molds should simply drop as Generic_Slot_mold. Let the guild decide how they are going to distribute the molds to those that earned/deserve said armor.

As it stands now, leather and silk pieces are already rotting in my guild. Compound this with the fact that these are the ONLY pieces of loot dropping off most of these mobs and you have a problem.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I DO NOT AGREE WITH MOLDS DROPPING AS LOOT. They are not loot, they are bread and butter armor parts a la Velious Quest Armor - just implemented HORRIBLY wrong.

Anyways, Blizzard is hopefully going to be taking WoW beta in April. Hopefully it can take us away from this tired bullshit. I can admit I need my fix, but I'll take the high quality crack from another vendor if it's available at this point. The monopoly of stupidity has to end.

The exact ratios arent as important as Verant/Sony actually taking a look at the drop rates and doing *something* about it.

If chain/leather/silk drops are 20 or 25% doesn't really matter, but leather dropping TWICE as much as plate and FIVE times as much as chain is just wrong.

I agree that a classless generic drop, say elemental boots, that can be used by any class is the optimal solution. This will completely solve the drop rate problem, and armor will not rot. This in turn means that players will not be unhappy.

Failing that, use my suggested ratios in my first post or at least tune the drops by the number of classes that use a certain type of mold/pattern (eg. 5/15 classes use plate, so plate drops should be 33%) as this will get rid of the problem for the most part, save for rotting armor.

Let's see we have 2 rangers who raid a lot, and 1 beastlord that raids a lot, so that is not a valid point for all servers. However, ALL we get is silk with the occasional plate bracer. I hear everyone on these boards whine that there is too much leather when in reality there isn't enough, or maybe it's purely random per server? I just know that our server and many others are sick of seeing wizards etc. in 3 pieces before other classes have 1.

Blatantly ripped from silent redemption's site, but a picture says more than a thousand words:

Verant better fix the drop rates in the patch on tuesday.

yes leather drops way more then everything else, plate is too rare for the amount of plate classes in any given raid. at this point an even 25% chance on each would even be welcome..since both plate and chain are woefully rare

This sounds just like the drops in Kael for thurgadin quest armor.

They were horribly imbalanced, but in the other direction.

Heh our plate drops are 0%. So far its been 50%+ leather, 30-40% silk and the rest chain. This is out of 20 or so drops we have gotten in our first 2 ele planes raids. I really hope this patch tomorrow will do something about that.

Read EQClerics around the time they were getting ready to finish up PoP (not that it's even done now of course.) Clerics claimed a) 30% of the game is druids, b) Tunare's Renwel was the death of the cleric class and all of them would reroll as druids just like all the clerics on the test server were reported as doing. Add on the new beastlord class who had barely bothered with velious if at all and all the melee bitching wizards outdamage them and they're rerolling and you have... 50% of the server being a bunch of naked leather wearers and 40% being silk all desperately in need of something to wear. SOE!

At least with the proposed changes to required flags for raids we will be able to get Twinks in here for the armor...

(*sigh*)
