Why aren't there "linked" Ring type events?

As a response to Kreugen's post about Everquest-boredom,

I've always wondered about certain Ring type events.

Why aren't there zones split into 2 wings, or 4 wings, with limits that there can only be a max of 12 players per wing.

Then once you trigger the event, different Ring type events begin for each wing, and to advance to the boss of the zone, each wing of 12 players must "win" their Ring event.

This way, every person in the 12-player teams feels necessary, and it's definitely more exciting then clearing 25 trash mobs and swinging mindlessly until you reach the boss.

That would be awsome, like a dungeon crawl thing, limit it to like 48 people... then have to split off into two groups each where they're really pushed to test the limit in different areas of the groups and it all depended on each set winning and retrieving a certain thing to spawn a boss or something, that would be great.

It would need a time limit for each wing so you just couldnt take a good equipped guild and run from wing to wing, or make it start at same time in each wing. Yeah that sounds like more fun.

We all know the answer to why not....people (myself included) buy the rushed out expansions without knowing what the content is like.

SOE can get away with producing the same old same old, so they keep doing it. It's human nature, and it's (short term) good business sense, minimise effort and attempt to maximise profit through shorter development cycles using smaller staff numbers.

i'd fear the uber-flames that would erupt within guild if someone fucked up a part of that type of event, and wasted the whole night...

I dunno, rings kept on being in small areas(although the one luclin ring I went to involved little evil hobbits attacking by the assload v. pretty distant kerran huts around some zone...so they are doable.) Just harder to make larger radius rings, i'd guess

In a way, thats how the 2nd half of inner acrylia worked, but on a larger scale(needing alot more then 12 people). You had to complete ring events to obtain a no rent key, which gave you access to the next ring event, eventually leading to the final encounter (Tashakhi). Which was a timed event. At one point you a key phrase is needed, which would be said to a NPC making him raise a bridge for your raid. (giving access to the final event)

I really liked the way they laid this out, it kept you awake and interested through out the entire raid. Even though the zone is dead and will probably never get revamped, they should really look at what was done there and use the format for future zones.

inner acrylia was such a cool idea but once SOE decided that sraa was gonna be the ONLY way to go in SOL then well thats hat you had. SOL had so much possabilities as far as storyline and factions it could have been just as good as SOV, but they fucked it up with crappy itemization and craptastic planning.

and IIRC inner acrylia is going to be "fixed". it will be fixed just as soon as all the straight people leave san fransisco.

Have the 4 locked-room events with 12 players per room.

And require 3 out of 4 to be won. Ie, allow 1 locked room event to fail with no penalty.

Thus, if something goes wrong, 2 people (at least) had to have screwed up. And, FoH can brag about doing these trials with 3 sets of 9. ;-)
