Columbia House / Verant Selling E-mail

Hello everyone

I was curious if anyone else got a Columbia House: Get Your DVD's Now e-mail today?

I got one, sent to my EVERQUEST NAME. I can't think of any other company who would have my name registered it anything.. ??

Just wondering

sorry, no, only get porn email spam here. But I filtered The Station garbage through hotmail or some other fake addy.

Also blocked email from The Station. heh.

sony owns columbia house. so while its still annoying to get spam; they didnt actually sell your email to anyone. they just shared it with another part of their own company.

the company names involved in EQ have always been a convoluted mess. but the paychecks have been signed by sony online entertainment for several years now.

EQs development which was first purchased by 989 studios; sonys than largest game publishing arm (and the influence for the original $9.89 a month price) was broken apart into smaller studios most notably 989 sports taking over the sports games for PS2 and the verant interactive dev team (or what would have been if 99% hadnt already left) was moved under the direct control of sony online entertainment which was reformed under the parent company sony digital entertainment (and the company behind EQs CS from the start) which is in turn a sub division of sony computer entertainment of america and so on trailing back to the ownership of a dozen other "sony whatever" companys; you can read more about that mess here:

sony online entertainment also spawned its own seperate divisions under it, with SWG, PS, SV, EQ2, etc all having their own teams. brad while he remained with sony after verants purchase was moved up to over see these sub divisions.

it was brad mcquaid that tried to hold onto the verant interactive name for as long as possible. keeping it as the name for EQs ongoing dev team (now EQ-live or whatever their calling themselves this time). with his leaving to create sigil games online (and using microsoft for their publisher) sony removed the verant name from everything.

SOE will continue to provide the CS, tech-support, and server hosting for all of its upcoming online games from the former verant interactive offices in san diego (well, they added a second building and were considering a third last i heard - but its still the same office complex). while the actual dev teams are seperate, the hosting, CS, etc are centralized as one team.
