Funny how after Jait posts the SoE/VI thread w/ the login server info, an admin for the tech forums edits the very thread he linked and removed the pertinent info:

"[Note: This message has been edited by ubbadmin] "

Take a look.

Hmm.. Seems like someone's covering their asses.

Sounds kinda like you guys are trying to login to server 2 to be the first in after patches, ie, before patch is finished..

"first in after patches, ie, before patch is finished.. "

Grats oxymoron. Care to invest in a class in logic before you spew any more nonsensical idiocy?

How can we be the "first in _after_ patches _BEFORE_ the patch is finished?

Good god.

umm

ya, it makes sense to "sneak login" to race for spawns when our entire guild found itself in corpse form after the servercrash. Fact is, Blood / Emp combo isnt up on serverup, and thats where all our corpses were due to server coming down. So saying we were trying to cheat our way outa a race is pretty damn retarded.

Fact is, ive had this "tactic" emailed to me from CSR about a year back. Living in europe the routers between login1 and me are sometimes down, and when i inquired about it i was sent an email with the login ips and patch server ips, and instructions on how to change hosts file. - This by their own staff.

Which is what our people were doing. Trying to log in to loot their corpses, but found themselves getting suspended instead while following instructions that have come from SOE in the first place.

I think the point is that there are three different login server IPs, all of which are widely known of by the players. For some reason, they either forgot to take down all but the main login server, and left the servers up while they were finishing up the patching process. In addition, the servers remained up, not locked, not down, UP.

There was nothing preventing these people from logging in as they had no way of knowing that they shouldn't have been logging in yet. Suspensions no questions asked for an issue as in the grey area as this is a bit much, and frankly surprises me even for Sony.

Now, I could understand a verbal warning - ie the patch isn't complete now, we fucked up, could you please log out until things are good to go?

Actually it looks like you're trying to cover your asses.

You knew that you weren't meant to logged in until the patch had finished, but you found a way to get on and got caught and punished for it. You are now claiming ignorance of the fact that you're not meant to be in game during a patch, which everyone knows is the case.

Sorry but it won't wash. You exploited, you got caught, take it like a man and stop whining.

Rabbit...

The server status was up, and green to go. The message you get back from the login server is the same whether it's congested, or whether intentionally locked.

If SoE believes that using an alternate login server is in fact a violation of ToS/EuLA, then it needs to explicitly state it before suspending people, instead of providing the login server addresses in its own tech forums and sending email delineating the procedure to switch to an alternate login server to those who have problems logging in to server1.

The point in fact is, when we asked the GM why some people were getting suspended, his reply was that his supervisor had said those involved were (obviously) "hacking the EQ client". When does editing a text file = hacking the client ? When SoE tells you in a patch to delete the host information in the same file so that your client patches correctly, are they telling you to hack the client as well ? Subsequent questioning of the GM with members giving him the URL of the aforesaid forums resulted in answers such as, "I don't know exactly why, I was just told to do it".

In short, they saw we had members on, they wondered wtf was going on, assumed we were doing something wrong (i.e. hacking), and suspended some people without even reviewing to see if their assumptions were correct. Sound familiar ?

If in hindsight they decide that using an alternate login server is an exploit, then they need to clearly state this to their user base. Suspending 25+ people (CQ, and a guild on Innoruk, as well as a few others) is extreme and unreasonable given the circumstances. At the most, in cases like these, giving the players a warning and explanation of why + asking them to log until the patch was finished would have been the sensible thing to do.

Where the fuck did you get that from?

Look moron. Same thing happens every patch. Losers like you come into chatrooms and spam SERVERS UP !!! over and over

Sure enough I check, they're green. I log in like normal. 30 secs later the entire server is full.

There's nothing mysterious here. Login 1 was congested, no one was in for a full GASP 10 seconds. I was playing a naked warrior in PoK, waiting for Rez.

So please stop assuming were all evil exploiters, you clearly dont have a fucking clue about anything and just wanna look cool.

By-passing normal login process to get online faster and so to spawns faster sounds a lot like an exploit. Especally if normal login was not even open to others which from the GM's being so suprised you were there looks to be the case.

if you cant do the time dont do the crime.
It's not a crime unless it states so, somewhere. Everquest is simply, in this case, Sony's little playground (Sony being the internal potentates with a power trip looking for every little wrong their subscribers do.)

This kind of thing won't change until someone in the government cracks down for unfair business practices. Until then, we get to deal with the random whims of people who can't be touched.

You're in our world now, motherfucker.

I like how Sony gives the standard "this is not the forum to discuss this, please email blackhole@sony.com" response. Whether CQ was doing this with bad intentions or not, means nothing. Sony posted the information, if they think it shouldn't be used by customers, then state that somewhere, or for fuck's sake don't allow them to access it in that manner.

I'm a business student myself, and don't quite remember ever reading in a text book that it's good business practice to dry fuck your customers in the ass on a regular basis. Can't say I will regret the day I stop giving those fuckwits another dollar.

Problem solved.

An apology to our customers
Late last night some of our GMs saw some unusual activity on the servers. Some accounts were logging in and downloading incorrect files. This seemed out of the ordinary, and the accounts in question were suspended temporarily.

The fact that this unusual activity occurred was entirely our fault. In the future we will be careful to ensure that if we do not want folks to have access to something, we will make certain that they do not have that access.

Our apologies for the mess up. We understand patch time can be critical time for guilds and clearly this ruined patch day for several customers. Anyone that was suspended due to this issue will have that suspension lifted before 3 pm. PST. We will also be compensating those customers who lost time last night.

LOL I was about to say...take the banishment/suspension like a man. Say fuck you Sony, don't play anymore of their games, and go on with your life. I'm shocked they honestly ever suspended you considering they only want your money to begin with...maybe Johnny boy aka the Smede read this and was like, "WTF YOU STUPID GM! You suspended them1?!?! We need money bitch. Now fucking fix it." bling bling $$$

EQ used to be fun, but not anymore. However, I won't deny it is fun to read posts like this and browse messageboards. I quit recently and it was the best thing I've done in my life in a while. Conquest you should follow suit. Vive La Revolution!! (sp?!)
