The Old-School Thread

What was your favorite zone pre-Kunark? What was your favorite past time? Favorite quest? What were you equipped in?

I, was a druid back then, before they were massively popular. I was using my Wee Harvester, some GEBS (that cost me an arm and a leg, christ), Savants Cap (wuwu~), Gator Legs (long camp, doh, anyone remember that one?), and teh uber platinum jasper rings, among other stuffs.

My favorite quest was...Gem Inlaid Gauntlets, yay.

Favorite zone was Deadside Lower Guk, couldn't stand Sol or Perma.

I loved the Ghoul Assassin room, still one of my favorite camps. I go back there with my old friends to farm the 1337 TBB's every once and a while.

When I started on veeshan it seemed almost everyone was a druid. I can remember grouping with 2-3 somtimes in my group. I am sure Kreugen will remember the group we came leveled up with. It was 2 druids(neither who healed), 1 shaman, 1 ranger(me), 2 Paladin(Kreugen and Dalron? is that right kreu?). Anyway we mostly did SolB, this was when it only had 1-2 groups in it max, and lower guk live side. Kreugen became a master of root messing. Most people were flocking to lower guk dead side and therefore I tried to avoid it once we got our sweet ykeshas^^. The best exp spot of the time was solb the bug/bat room. Only one group camped it at the time and you could pull massive amounts for pretty good exp. Thats the spot I turned 50 at.

Ahhh...

Played a necro, back when you'd give them one FS dagger and one rusty dagger, and they would hand anything its ass.
(This was before Mage pets could even hold weapons. From what I've heard, Necro pets would take on the delay of the weapon they held, and keep their damage inherent to their own fists. Plus, it was the only way to get them to Dual wield.)

Favorite zone was OOT. Soloing Alliezewsaur for Black sapphires and diamonds was a definate rush, as every pull of him was scary. (It was for me, anyway. I'd be shakin like a dog shittin a peach pit every time I went to loot. Diamonds and Black sapphires were superb loot!)

I was not "uber" in those days - but a GSD back then was a fine robe, (for me) All the goodies from temple of Sol Ro (harvester, necro boots n gloves.) Couple of PBB's, NS wreath. The nice thing about those items is that they all had a story - getting each one of them was its own adventure.

My favorite places were Blackburrow, Oasis of Marr, and East Karana.

I was playing a barbarian WAR and his "uber" quest was to get the Langseax of the Wolves. I like that quest because it involved a lot of different people and items. The old stuff brings back very fond memories.

the qeynos catacombs rocked man. You could kill Cubert the cube and possibly get some leet +2 int earrings(or rattooth earrings if hps floated your boat), some +2 or so hp rings off some drowned skeleton, netted drops off the 3 frogloks, an uber black cloak off the shady mercenary, and if you weren't a good class the bloodsabres didn't mind you using their banker and selling. Plus they had a few assorted quest mobs wandering around occasionally. not to mention the bandits and shark pits!!! such a sweet xp place.

OMG that was place was sweet.

Solb was my favorite.

I remember rushing the king room at full pop, and having it be the biggest deal that only 1 warrior died.

mistmoore and unrest. people hated mistmoore because of its pathing and random trains to zone (at the time the reason wasnt known why, late it was discovered to be caused by standing under the tower)

Unrest was where i spent a lot of time. Bronze dropped there! the first platemail type armor anyone had seen! and it sold cheap! only 10plat per ac! and you could sell the fine steel in greater fay for up to 30p each!

that was back when people actually **helped** each other a lot, and everyone would gang up to get KSers and trainers killed. (no PnP)

exploring the world was fun, finding aviaks in OOT was a blast, no one knew they exsisted outside south karana at the time.

Mistmoore most of all... something about a castle and almost everything turning undead at night just worked out well.

SOL B > all

So many hours spent slaying Kobolds and bugs and looting l33t armor like Runed Mithril. Or putting together 2 group mini raids for Efreeti. Or using my Ogre twink to block the zone out so trainers die.

Going back to that zone still gives me a warm feeling inside.

Some Druid in my guild wanted to show us his "secret XP spot". It turned out to be Lower Guk. Guk was soooo nice when it was empty. Our other secret xp spot, at least for a while, was Sol B =)

Back then Froglock King and Ghoul Lord were guild raids. The zone I hated most was Cazic Thule since everyone was there trying to farm some Rubicite ....

My uber pally had Rubicite Legs, Black Enamelled Chestplate, Mithral 2-Hander and a "real" Guise of the Deceiver.

Anyone ever camp the J-Boots in Najeena? Always a huge line for that one.

Qeynos (during my level 5-10 days) when the undead dude would run a muck through that place...not to mention when I camped Pyzgin for my GBS.

SolB, King/Bug/Stone Spider room...not to mention Efreeti...scary camps back then, heh. Would always be afraid if extra spiders aggroed when you pulled the room of SS, or if to many lava guardians aggroed you.

LGuk , Guk King had to be the most difficult camp back then...very tough to break and he was tough with his mithril 2hander sword when he spawned... :\ I liked the old ykesha graphic, dunno why they changed it.

Qeynos Catacombs, this place was usually NEVER EVER camped...okay, it still is most likely. But the bandits and smugglers down there were the BEST exp for level 5s and 7s...it was greatness.

Beholder, I remember shouting in Qeynos Hills (when there use to be like 30-50 people there) saying, "Looking for brave adventures who want to exp in Beholder." and we would travel through the desolent karanas hoping to not die by giants.

Then when we had gotten to Beholder, we usually would die after 30ish minutes from being charmed or to many minotaurs...GREAT times!
