| obsessing about what others do I do not understand a major part of the attitude of many power gamers. I understand guild rivalry and competing for content, because that directly impacts your gaming experience. But some of the comments people were making in the "busted economy" post and many others are just pathetic. Who cares if a guild on another server beats an encounter with "cheese" tactics? Who cares if someone is a twink? Why care if NTOV stuff was made tradable and people got the loot without raiding, once you are long past that stage? Why obsess over whether a player/guild has "earned" something by your standards? Unless it directly impacts your playing of the game, why the need for monitoring how others play the game, or jealousy/flames if someone obtained something in a way you do not think is deserving? Is it purely to boost ego by labeling someone a gimp? (for the record, yes I was a powergamer, at one time in the #1 guild on my server, but now I don't play anymore)

| thanks Karae, I didn't play on Veeshan so a character name wouldnt matter anyway Before this gets Rickshawed, since after your post it obviously will - how about an answer? I understand if for example Guild B cheeses to beat the Emperor while Guild A is still killing it - that impacts your playtime. But if guild A is already farming Elemental Planes, who cares if Guild B uses 100 people to kill the Emp?? It wouldn't affect Guild A's gaming experience one bit. I guess it is all a part of the cybercock phenomenon - the need to belittle others to boost yourself up.

| try listenning to what he's saying aychemo, why dont you do yourself a favor and just stop talking now, youve embarrassed yourself enough. and, he wasnt giving an opinion, he was asking a question. and the first guy who replied, you have more then proven your ignorance by labelling him a homosexual just because he asks something that is totally out of your realm of thinking. why dont u try taking a nonbias opinion. he isnt bashing anybody,(maybe i am , so flame me) he's asking a fucking question. get it right i knew a post like that would get these kind of reactions right off the bat because of all the powergamers that look at these boards. Questioning their way of playing(which may be their whole life depending on how much they play eq) they are going to get defensive and take it as an insult. hopefully somebody will think out of their box and be nonbias / give an actual answer Last edited by tanuvyen : 01-08-2003 at 05:32 PM. |

| The same reason why I care how the economy is in England. The same reason Bush cares that Saddam has nukes. The same reason I look at the stock market to see how opposing shares are doing. It's called community concern. I care about the other people in the world and what is going on because it may affect me in the future. Same with Everquest. If one guild on a different server has just figured out how to do a CH chain (before anyone else did) then that is good information for several reasons. a.) My guild can learn it and be better on my server b.) other guilds can learn it and change the way the game is played One persons actions on a different server might not end up meaning anything until they exploit named in BoT and then get them made harder until maybe they are so hard it takes 2 groups to kill them instead of 1. Does that make sense now? |

| The original poster makes some good points. Why are people jealous over silly shit? My theory is that because a lot of socially ill adjusted people play the game, and a lot of children play. Possibly why some people moved to Stormhammer. I know they have their problems there too, but with the increased cost I'm sure the adult-to-moron ratio is much higher in favor of adults. |

| Beauti thank you - that is a good answer to the question My thoughts were always this - if it does not impact my playing and enjoyment of the game directly, then I shouldn't care what the hell anyone else is doing with their time in EQ. But you do have a good point, the tactics someone else uses can definitely lead to game changes that affect you. The only thing I don't care for is the instant gimp/zerg labels thrown out so readily. I was never in a guild that used massive numbers, but if someone else needs to do that until they learn an encounter so be it. Be confident in your own superior gear/strategies without having to slam them.

+10 Internets | I care because the game is social and dynamic and the actions of others 1) Interest me 2) Can have an impact on my gaming experience. A guild gimping a mob on another server can be the reason of a change on the mob design for everyone for example. And we often noticed that it takes only a hand full of badly informed whiners to generate dramatic changes in the game. Why care about twinking? Because I care about what the others think of me. Since gear is a visible measure of the achievement in the game, dropable loot accessible by anyone who farmed enough pp or spent enough dollars on auction sites blurs the line between the people that achieved something in the game and the one who did not. The current state of the game in this regard sounds ok to me, since it's still possible to make very powerful and I guess enjoyable twinks with a selected set of dropable gear. EDIT: formulation

| Trying my best to be as non-judgemental as possible, I have to ask you Szilia: Why do you care what random_player_09 thinks of you? Everquest is a game to have fun and fill your leisure time. Of course you want the respect of your friends and those you spend your gaming time with, and you do not want a bad reputation on your server because that can impact your playing. But beyond that? Am I right in saying that to you EQ is a competition among all the players to be the best, so your gear reflects your "status and ranking" and that is why you want the best gear no drop so as not to cheapen it or dilute your prestige? I can understand that, but a lot of us want the best gear so we can play the game better and be stronger characters, not necessarily to impress others. Hell I never even made a Magelo when I played (I knew what gear I had lol). ps: this is emerging from "faggot flames" into a serious discussion of sorts, can we try and keep it that way as long as possible?

| It was never a serious discussion because it was never a serious question. You knew the answer to your own question before you ever asked it, you just wanted to feel better about yourself. Assuming I'm wrong, and you are just that dense: EQ is a game. Achievement in a social game cannot be defined in absolute accomplishment, only relative accomplishment. If someone else uses methods that you consider "cheese" to achieve the same accomplishments, then it LESSENS YOUR OWN ACCOMPLISHMENT because now it is clear that the thing can be done in a way that requires less work or elegence. Ex. Killing Vox is no longer an accomplishment, because you can just zerg her with a force of level 52 supertwinks. If enough people cheese emp to death, too, then that won't be an accomplishment either.
