+1 Internets | Old School Good memories. Oasis. And lockjaw. Heh, that was such a cool fight early on. Was nice when we were the only group there. Askarii, Raganork, Nunnehi, myself and whoever showed up. Remember being there xping and hearing Kalaran auctioning FINE STEEL!!. Moving on, down into Guk. Guk definatly was the best zone in Original EQ. No other zone combined the sense of danger and excitement with phat lewtz like Guk did. As Millie points out, at that point if you died, it was game over. The only other group able to clear guk when we went through it was Kal's group and at that point we were on hostile terms. I remember Ulik talking my group into jumping off the bridge in Guk at lvl 35ish to get him his dark reaver... haha, what a mess, though we managed to pull it off. Soul B in comparison was never as fun. The original Vox fight was a blast as well, I think I still have some pics around. Was Kalaran, Nino, Crip, Krimson, Creediki, Tdira, Raganork, Ulik, Askarii, Zamtil, Ooga and Alloria, Senir, and a few others. Was about 3 groups total. What a blast. Win or loose just about everything, since I don't think corpses were draggable yet. That fight took just about everything. Clerics were trying to med for mana, people were dying... and then Willard landed the killshot. What a kick ass fight. Kal get's his FSS! Krim gets blue warhammer or something. And Ulik walks away with the uber GBS! Those early fights were the best. With so much to know, it all new and unknown, and a group of people who all knew what the fuck they were doing. Those were the best days, before it turned into a big RTS for guildleaders. P.S. And let us not forget some of the lighter moments. Ulik and his Ulikian nation, the uber troll-SK. Tdira training the hell out of anything that moved in Guk. The random huge trains that showed up followed by ' Turn your fucking songs off Creed!'. Furor/Kartak/Kalarans various inspired rants at the guild when we were dumbfucks. Trying to figure out what the symbols on the walls of the canyon in EK were / Trying to figure out the firepot in Neriak. Looking for the GBS quest. Alchemy. Looking for the FSS... trying to find out how to spawn MM. Charging Cazic 5 mins before the server went down. Hell of a first year. Creed Last edited by Creediki : 01-14-2003 at 12:08 PM. |

| The thing I hate about Sol B (besides the fact that pretty much everything sees invis) is the zone out to LS. You get one Ogre/Troll/Barb/whatever in that hallway and if you have to escape a train you are SOL. I can't remember how many times I've died trying to get out of Sol B only to have some AFK Ogre/Troll/Barb/whatever blocking my way out. O well. Someone also said it would be cool to have a pre-rok server. My only thoughts are: It would never bring back the "glory days of EQ". Everyone knows where an FBSS drops. Everyone knows where to go to get good armor in the Old World. People would just start going to Rathe Mts to farm Hill Giants for there Uber money drops. It just wouldn't be the same. BTW I know when ROK came out they added the Iksar but what class did they add? Did they even add a class?

| Part of the mystery of EQ was not only that people weren't new to the game, but EQ wasn't really down to numbers. Every time I tank a mob I've never fought before with my cleric friend I always group with, I immediately call out its max hit so Cleric can adjust accordingly, something I don't recall doing pre-Velious. There are were no spoiler sites, etc. if you wanted something you either had to figure out by word of mouth, or do it for yourself. There were also little or very few high level people and when you were going deep into a dungeon it wasn't really something that everyone had done. And you couldn't just shout "sand giant up" and a level 40 druid would run and kite him, because there were very few level 40 druids, or they would run around to kill, and the game wasn't so watered down to make money. There are pieces of Armor that I had that were godly to have at level 30 that a level 10 wouldn't even touch now. Godly things like the 25dmg 40delay Razing Sword of Skarlon that were uber when I got them at level 45 are run of the mill for level 20's. Didn't have things like getting your equipment back when you die, Plane of Knowledge to go to anywhere atleast remotely close to anywhere else. You died in Guk you were running back from Freeport unless you were an evil race, and you could bind in Innothule. Wasn't any zoning to East Commons and shouting for a port, sometimes you could pray that there as an ungrouped Cleric that could run and res you. That's one of the sort of nice things about new expansions is that you get to explore, but PoP wasn't particularly great about it considering that there are very few actual "dungeons" in PoP. Dungeon crawls are one of the most fun things, I really enjoyed crawling through the Deep two days after Luclin came out when you didn't know what to expect and you didn't know where to go, but you were just going whever you decided to in hopes you could get something nice or atleast some good exp. |

| Ask old FoH clerics about how they were almost drove insane by guild mates asking for resses in the most out of the way places.. cough **Tdira** cough Also I think Krimsons reward was the Blue Hammer of lightning. How can anyone forget the AoF getting stuck behind the zone wall in cazic. That was always classic. People who never played before summon corpse just dont know how it was then. Anyone remember the zone bug where when you zoned and came out on the other side naked with all your equipment gone? Zonning from solb into lava and finding yourself in lava was always fun. And to my knowledge to this day no one item has been nerfed as many times as the Mistwalker. Any old FoH have a SS of when CT tried to break pof and when we zoned in to save them our frame rate went to about 1fps or crash... |

| Guk is probably the best zone from old world EQ. There's something to be said for a good dungeon crawl, and between upper and lower, live side and dead, it was pretty damn big. Rushing the Ghoul Lord or king with 2 groups was the height of upper end EQ as far as I'm concerned. All the uber encounters after that were a matter of more hps and damage, they lost sight of what makes a fun encounter. All the gods and dragons in the expansions afterwards can't compare to the first frenzy ghoul fights or efreeti runs. Whoever wants that pre-Kunark server is a moron. Like you can put your fucking head in the sand and pretend the last 3 years never happened. Along with what others have said, one of the reasons EQ was so much fun at the beginning was the community building. Noone knew anyone else, so people were slowly forming small bands of friends to accomplish things and carve out their own piece of Norrath. It was this lack of organization that made the game challenging. |
