Favorite zone pre-kunark : Fear, only place i got to pull in (im a druid =p )
Favorite past time : pulling in fear ^_^
Favorite quest : strangely enough, the staff of the observers was always one of my favorite quests... it was just fun for some reason
Equipment : Vermiculated, all but tunic (didn't get that till like 2 months into kunark... newb druids always beat me via gay ass loot rules and shit, and didnt wear boots or hat) mithril-runed tunic, heirophants crook (still have it heh), GEBs, runed circlet ( i think that was it... heh), tobrins eyepatch... plat jasp rings, crysoberyl talisman, bone-clasped girdle; that's about it

I miss pre-kunark days alot...

I played a Ranger back in the day. Emera was his name.
My quest was the Trueshot Longbow. Favorite Zone back then was definetly CB. It seemed so badassed to kill the emporer.

Cazic Thule, Lower Guk. Those FG and nagafen raids were awesome too! MM was cool once you got inside the mansion

I never actually got IN the room. Every time 3 buddies and me said "we need some spiffy boots so we don't have to SoW up all the time" someone was in there. Door cockblocking was the pwn.

ALPHA LOOT!

/shout HAG TO ZONE!!!!!

But man, all the FS and Bonze that dropped in Unrest.. that place was a veritable goldmine.

I had a mage pal so we used to "pick the lock" to Naj's room with his pets hehe.

I camped that stupid room off and on from 28 til 43. I got my pair like a week or two before they made it quest.

A full group came in later that day, but they were all lvl 30s and this was before group dmg > solo dmg xp rules, so they couldnt ks me. They brought in a lvl 50 paladin later (BWAHAHAHA). Naturally I was still getting the kills. So CS appears and we agree that I get the first pair and then I stay and help them get their pairs for a bit. So I say "sure no prob". Well 1st pair drops....LD. WTF. So I come back they of course looted them because. 2nd pair drops. Bugged corpse couldnt loot it. I log out...cant log back in. WTF. So they looted the 2nd pair. Finally, like 15min before I had to log, a 3rd pair dropped and I was finally able to loot. Nice jboot streak heh.

Too bad they nerfed jboots just before Kunark speedwise.

Anyways...best old school dungeons were Blackburrow, Unrest, and Solb ;p After they revamped it I really liked Kedge though.

lol cyb... that sounds similiar to my jboot story.... go in right after server reset w/ a 42 pal, then the room started getting crowded and the pal got his boots. me and my group are there, 2 more groups came to ks, and it basically attracted some gm attention(back when gm's came in pairs). funny bugs happened, but then jboots started dropping(3 drez's in a row, all w/ jboots, and mine had a dagger). i <3 old najena.

n e way, fave old zone = paw. no one was there so it was ez to farm for me and exp was goood. new paw blows.

best quest = paw of opola... i remember finding that shortly after it was found on druids grove... gayest camps ever :/ i wish sometimes EQ made sense in saying where quest parts where at back then. but o well, guesswork was fun.

Unrest

Unrest was definitely the most fun in my mid teen levels. The run through Dagnor's Cauldran was always intense trying to avoid goblins. Bronze armor was the first plate anyone there ever saw and damn that dark elf mask looked awesome. Lower guk was also fun and sol b was home.

At 50 pre kunark I had valorium bp, legs, arms, and gloves, mino hero bracer/ro bracer, crested helm/frog helm, ro boots, crested spaulders, plat fire wedding rings, BS earings, neck from sol a with 5 ac and fr, FBSS, and a bronze mask. Weapon was mith 2h and FA.

Too bad they had to create all those expansions to fuck it all up.

EQ before any expansions was truly and uber game for the players.

Today, it's a loot addicting cash cow for a greedy fucked up company where acheivment is trivial and short lived.

Sad.

Things change, get over it.

You remind me of one of those people who claim Beatles was the best music ever and there is nothing better... great, I am happy you think that, and that may have led to what music is today. But things can be improved upon.

Without those expansions to help you reflect upon everquest you might never have the appreciation that you today have. Another beatles comparison would be that if beatles had sold all those records and yet music was inspired by a band that came right after them and was today totally different, you wouldn't think the beatles were so amazing, or if you did, you would be riding with a much smaller crowd.

BTW, sorry to bring down the whole nostalgic feel of the thread but nothing will ever be what Everquest once was to you, both you and the game have change in some way or another. Saying that the direction EQ took was "sad" just kinda annoys me.

Annoying posts about memories or not old school EQ was the best. I never thought of it at the time but I was truely lucky to be in the betas (omg leet befallen infos) and play from release. jboots, guise, old yaks, rubi etc etc noone gets excited about stuff anymore like we were back then. Like all/all Woodelf mask lol who gives a fuck? Guise is where its at muthafuckers, DE rangers represent!

Heh, don't get me wrong, Old School EQ was awesome, and my post was not directed at all the posters, I love to hear those old cool stories. I just hate how people say "it was better then and now it sucks."

The other thing I wanted to add is that I don't really think that it is so much the expansion that was so cool, but more the lower levels that were. I remember I started just around Velious, and I was a erudite wizard, Tox forest was so damn cool because it seemed like my little corner of the world I guess. Killing beetles and skunks and kobolds and nuking the guards then running to the zone really quick to see how much life it would take from them, they always resisted and today it is the kind of thing that you can't nuke too hard because you might make them summon, something I had no idea of at the time.

Yeah, Odus was a really cool place to start out... Of course I left at 5 or so, took the boat to qeynos and found someone to port me over to WC for free, and getting sow and running so amazingly fast, and with this amazing advantage, nuking a guard for the fun of it, and running through the land, and all of a sudden a zone!! who knew? Then it was spammy, but the person I knew in RL who started before me gave me badass buffs and I killed stuff so well...

Yeah, heh, it is so weird to look back on it...

Hrm

My favorite pre-planar zone was lower Guk. All the power gamers camped Sol B ( I mean beta guys like Thott and Denzalo), so it was pretty empty at that time. Lord and King camps would regularly get their asses kicked.

Without doubt though, Hate first edition (wandering spawns didn't respawn anywhere near so quickly, but those fucking shaman mob wolf pets would always get stuck and bring the train of doom) was probably the most significant zone I've seen. As far as I can remember, it was the zone that got alot of the AL members that weren't friends together, and got the idea going for an Uber guild on Mith Marr. No clue if that was the case on Veeshan, but if any zone had a giant impact on MM, I'd say it was Hate.

Plus, you never had a hard time getting clerics to go to a pickup Hate raid. Or bards, Enchanters, etc.

PoH was a complete mess at first with all the pets getting stuck and other weird pathing issues. Pulling 2 or more spite golems were byt far the best. First is they hit hard and fast and could not be touched by magic. The other thing is you knew there would be adds unless you were very lucky. I can not possibly count how many times Inno warped on us at the entrace after dting furor.

Nothing beats beez in POA pre rok though. Horses came close, since they were extremly hard to seperate though..

Fun times fun times..
