Elemental Gloves?

I saw a link for the cleric elemental quest gloves.. the effect was

Retribution of the Ages
Slot Description
1: Increase Spell Damage by 150%
2: Limit: Spell(Wrath allowed)


I dont get it, why would they make a 150% nuke increase effect for a single level 29 spell? Seems like a few other classes got the same thing but for their spells.

All casters got the same thing on there gauntlets ...


Basically it takes that nuke and makes it do 100% + 150% damage so you will effectivly be doing about

554 damage for 145 mana 3.5 second casting time

For the lower pop armor atleast, that nuke focus works like regular focus items, it warries how much effect is, so its basicly useless (well, would probably be even if it hit for full effect each time too, but it not giving full effect half the time makes it even more lame.)

i dont expect every effect to be useful, i really dont.. i know verrant better. But this is just plain stupid.

Unless they change the proc on my weapon to Wrath :P

foci don't affect procs

Other than that, we've all done the math on the lowlevel nuke foci, it still doesn't make the spell worthwhile. Caster gloves have basically no effect, just stats.

Gloves

The gloves foci is supposed to always do max damage, which is why it's limited to one spell, and a level 29 spell at that.

The Wiz one only works on Inferno Shock. Inferno Shock does 250 damage for 137 mana in 3.7 seconds at level 33+. With the elemental gloves focus, it'd do 625 damage for 137 in 3.7 seconds. That's a 4.56:1 damage to mana spell.

Then you add in specialization, which decreases mana cost from 137 to 124. Since it's elemental armor, we'll assume that Casting Mastery AA is maxed out, so that changes it to 40% off mana cost, so it ends up at 82 mana.

Add in a mana preservation item II+ item, and that's another 10% off base mana cost, which brings you to 68 mana per cast.

Add in a Spell casting Haste foci, and you drop the time down to 3.34. Add in Cleric spell haste spell, and you've got it down to 3 seconds.

So, 625 damage for 68 mana in 3 seconds = 9.19:1 damage:mana; or ~125 DPS. Not Counting Crits...

I figure Tier 4 Wizzies will have around 5.5k mana, which would allow for you to cast Inferno Shock about 80 times, not counting mana regen. With Super Flappy + SP + VoQ + FS + Horse + MC3 you get ~58 mana a tick, or ~8.8 mana/second.
Inferno Shock costs ~13.9 mana per second with the above AA and items. With the buffs listed, you get ~8.8 mana per second. So with uber mana regen, Inferno Shock's mana cost comes down to ~15.3 mana per cast.

So, for a recap: 625 damage, for ~15 mana in 3 seconds. That's allowing you to chain nuke Inferno Shock for ~366 casts, or ~18.3 minutes before you'd run out of mana.

And this spell only has the aggro of a level 29 250 damage nuke...

And you guys are bitching? This is like the ultimate caster toy, even better than the wiz epic I'd say...

Kinda Stupid

Just a thought, what if they made some mobs in like PoT immune to 60+ damage spells /shrug that would kinda make sense as to why they added these. Kinda a dumb thought but one none the less.

how bout clerics dont nuke, that will fix the whole argument. what ever happend to the days where they just looked at a wall, and casted ch.

These focus effects are nice for a few classes, but pretty dumb for others. As an Enchanter, if I'm going to have a nuke memorized, it'll be my best one since I rarely chain nuke. Clerics are likely in the same boat.

*shrug* I've been relatively unimpressed with most of the effects on the Enchanter Ornate/Elemental armors. I'd much rather have the gloves have Extended Affliction 4 or something else I'd get more use out of (like summon water...).

Totally redone

Well on Test all the Ornate / Elemental effects are changed for the gloves.

They now make the best spell of each class cheaper manawise.

The Ornate gloves lower manacost by 20% and the Elemental by 25%. All the modifications of damage are gone.

*grumble* Would be nicer if the Enchanter gloves lowered the manacost of something like Bliss or Sleep instead.

Wiz Gloves

Now the wiz gloves do the following:
1: Decrease Spell Mana Cost by 25%
2: Limit: Spell(Strike of Solusek allowed)


Much much better imo.

Though I sure hope they change the damn robe.
