Oh how people forget history so easily....

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure most of this is accurate.

History of the Mistwalker:

-Droped off Vox
-Originally proc'd a level 50(49?) wolf pet with 1 hp that would stick around.
-1st problem : could be buffed with skin like nature, reso ect. to make it stick around a lot longer in combat and dish out serrious dmg back then.
-First nerf : disabling any sort of buffing on the pet.
-2nd problem : FoH came up with the idea of gathering all the mistwalkers and getting max dex on rangers so they could use the pets to absorb attacks from the overseer of air, since at the time tanking that mob was impossible. I don't remember if they ever actually did kill the overseer... but I think they did.
-2nd nerf: Making it so the pet summons, attacks for one round of combat then poofs.

Also, if I remember correctly Furors first character was an ogre warrior, not a rogue(name started with a K... can't quite put my finger on it) and he got banned for using show eq. Also there is no way that he exploited red dragon scales to get 50 so fast(lol). 1-50 in EQ is a joke, why would you think that FoH couldnt power level Furor that fast.

heh

I hardly read this board but if my memory serves me correct, Furor was banned for using a way of giving a no drop item to someone in the guild who couldn't get the item in time. I think in PoF. And Furor was a rogue in beta, and an ogre warrior in normal, until getting banned. I think Nino was a gnome too. God how I remember the most useless facts. :-p

Could you ever give No Drop items to NPC's...kill them, and no drop item would be lootable again?

Yes, the Mistwalker was nerfed to uselessness due to a 100% PURELY THEORETICAL plan that Kal came up with. We never had nearly enough Rangers for it. And yes we did kill the Overseer of Air, but by using "normal" methods like uh, slowing him.

Furor played his Rogue Kalaran for quite a long time in retail actually, and that character was the first to level 50 in retail. Later he made Kartak, his Ogre warrior. Nino was a halfling at some point in beta, I think. He's been a high elf through out retail though. Shame on him if he ever played a gnome...

And actually... using that pet sucked was shit for exp at the higher levels. PLing at Guk King with Mem Blur was much more effective.

Yes you could do this early in Retail.

Woulda thought that in the 4+ years we've been playing, crap like that woulda been long forgotten adn replaced by somthin usefull

iirc, there was a time when you could transfer nodrop items by putting them in a forge.

The last NO DROP transfer bug was fixed back when they made NPCs reject all items they don't require for a quest or whatever. Before that, you could charm a player in the Arena, (Charm/Fear are not disabled in PvP in that zone.) which makes them an NPC and you could then give them NO DROP items.

Mistwalker in it's original form needed to be nerfed. Not because of the stupid Overseer of Air "strategy," but because of its sick damage output. Back then, the uber players with top of the line godly gear put out about 30 DPS. The mistwalker pet double attacked for 155 and did not miss much. Put Naltron, Resolution, Altuna, and Swift Like The Wind on that pet and it does over 100 DPS easy. That's more than three times the amount of damage the best equipped players could do. Add to this the fact that Rangers pre-Kunark did more damage than any other melee class AND had the absolute best weapons at the time (Briarzephyr, Mistwalker, Rev Whip, Flux Axe) and you can see why people were crying to get this weapon nerfed.

People were crying to get it nerfed? Don't remember that at all heh. Only thing I remember is Kal coming up with some ridiculously crazy shit (per usual) and ending up getting something nerfed (per usual). In the Mistwalker's case though, it got nerfed a few times before that. Imo all the nerfs up 'till the one that happened due to Kal's crazy shit were fine, but the last ones were really bad.

There was some sort of FOH history tread on the old board and it mentionned that Furor got banned for exploiting a bug to trade (and sell? can't remember) nodrop gear from POF I believe.

I can't recall the details really nor did anyone comment it much at the time to know what exactly happened.

Furor did infact use a Red Dragon Fang(not sure of name) to level some. But why would anyone call that an exploit? It's an item that summons a single pet and then it's garabage, thats it's use. I'm sure VI didn't intend for it to be used for twinking, but calling that an exploit is like calling all twinking exploiting. As far as how much he used it I just remember him using it in Oasis to solo low stuff then giants and specs before moving on to guk well before his 40's.
