And I would go on to say that Blizzard is transitioning from a "traditional RPG MMO" to more of a "social network that has an RPG theme MMO". And hey, as I have said time and time again, it works. They are making money hand over fist. It just stop being fun for me awhile back because it ceased to be gamish and more of a drama club of grinding. I want more Dragon Age in my MMO and less The Sims. That is just me though.

| I'll tell you one thing, I'm already becoming leery of Biowares MMO if Dragon Age is any indication. DLC is one thing, but here I am playing this awesome game then the first time I get into my camp I have a guy sitting there with a quest that says "hey do you wanna download this super cool sounding adventure?" I'm not even 15% done with the fucking game, can you bother me with your add-ons some other time please? I've got a muthafuckin dragon to kill! Cosmetic, content, gear...keep that micro-transaction bullshit out of my games please. (reminds me of the DLC adventure packs for EQ2) don't tell me that wasn't a failure of an idea. Dragon Age the MMO, hell yes please. |

I am ok with DLC as long as it is worth the money, and as long as it is a single player game. Otherwise if it is a pay to play, wtf am I paying a monthly for? Sure as shit isnt for just server service, especially at $16/mo. $16/mo is for server hosting, AND for CONTENT. Now you are going to start charging me on top of that for more content? That is bullshit IMO.

| No I'm just mostly bothered because I'm seeing it during my first play-through. I'm of the opinion that if they have the content done for release then they should just release it all (as part of the main game) or hold it back. It's just a bit...disconcerting. -edit - also this gets into the whole monthly fee vs micro-transaction debate again. I, for one, would rather pay a higher monthly fee and just get EVERYTHING available in game then get nickle and dimed to death by a bunch of bullshit fees. I'm here to play a game, not think about real life and my fucking bank account every time I see something cool. Last edited by Daezuel; 11-05-2009 at 02:55 PM.. |

I know you guys are against the big mean corporations "squeezing" pennies out of people, but this is how businesses work. They streamline costs while increasing revenue opportunities. The unfortunate fact of the matter is, gamers seem to be a lot more susceptible to the lure of said goods than many other industries (*insert rant about gaming/MMO addiction*). Personally, i see this fluff WoW pet shop, roll my eyes and move on. I couldn't care less what Joe McTool has vs. what i have. In the world of giant flexing e-peens, though, i can promise you that quite a few people do care and will dish out that $10. In an industry where customers will cut any corner to get a competitive adavantage and say they're the best, micro-transactions are a gold mine. With Micro-Transactions, we've entered the MMO steroid era. There are no more legit toons anymore. Last edited by Aegorian; 11-05-2009 at 03:18 PM..

Yes, buying characters has been available outside of TOS for a long time, but I'd expect that the majority of those transactions occurred among the more elite players out there. There were the occasional "Level 60 Rogue LFG, How do I get to Backrock Deeps?", but there were many high levels I met and knew who would buy a shaman and become one of the best shamans on the server. Making it so a player loads up the log in screen, and instead of saying "So, you've always wanted to be a bloodelf" it says, "So, you've always wanted full ilvl 300 gear'd level 90" will make a lot of asshats buy it who never would have known what playerauctions.com was. I mentioned in a raid a few weeks ago my human paladin i'd levelled to 60 and sold for $900, and the puggy we'd brought in for spot#10 didn't believe that kinda shit had even happened. tl;dr = making characterbuying legal according to the ToS would make this more mainstream than the account buying/selling community is today by a hundredfold.

I do think $10 is way to high. They would make more money selling them at $2-$5 each. Then again, Im sure blizzards team that set the price did more research and is bigger than their content team, so maybe they feel $10 is their largest net profit

| You won't find this in D3 or any other Blizzard MMO/multiplayer at first. You have to differentiate brands when you are competing against yourself. Microtransactions will be big in WoW, but not so much in Blizzards other titles. The idea is that a WoW player that does not like microtransactions will migrate to another Blizzard title that does not have microtransactions. WoW is going to be used as a test-site for microtransactions. They can afford to do this with their new lineup of MMOs and games on the horizon. The timing is not a coincidence.
