Once the game shifted towards NO DROP items, the subscription numbers went down. Reason or coincidence?

Actually when the game became boring, I logged on one of my twinks. Twinks keep people playing (and paying) even if there is nothing left to explore. Twinks are free bonus content...
Dont get me started on the twinking debate... I have always HATED the shift to No-Drop everywhere we look in MMOs. And I think the argument for "scaring away the new players" is complete bullshit too. In fact, most people that get excited playing a new MMO are likely to tell their friends and try and get them to play along with them. What better way to get them into it by handing them a shiney sword of slaughtering rather than then starting with their rusty longswords!?

I loved the feeling making a level 1 toon and dropping Sebilis level gear on him back in Kunark era. Its all about the replayability.

You realize that the average odds of getting a particular loot card mean you have to spend $400 or more to get a specific one ? Depending on your luck it can be less or more.

I'm not sure 'don't want to play a card game', holds up.

Even better when you consider the loot that drops might be no use whatsoever to the guy who bought the cards but I'm sure they'll feel all warm and fuzzy at having forked out RL cash to equip random guild member #5.

I don't get it. 10 years later and this change, this time, just this one, is finally too much?

Wow.

Yeah, I'll own up to this one. I'm biased as a motherfucker, my significant other and practically every one of my friends works at SOE or used to. I'd much rather take that accusation than the one about me being a goddamn shill. I swear, people think I'm completely incapable of speaking for my own thoughts here. Are every one of you guys representative of your bosses? Why is it than anytime I give my opinions on shit it's "because I'm drinking Raph kool-aid." As I've said before, I disagree with him just as much as I agree with him, and I've never been a fucking puppet.

The best part about LoN is how successful it could be, but how it isn't because SoE is beyond incompetent. I started playing the game with my 20 free packs, learned it and was pretty impressed. It can be deeper than MTG and has lots of fun concepts. Then I went and looked at the price for a box of digital cards, 36 digital packs ~ $100. I pay less than that for a box of MTG, and it's real; Wizards pays money to get the cards printed and to send them out; SoE spends nothing on that area. I laughed when I saw the price. People would buy a ton of boxes if it was like $30, like a box of digital cards should be. But, no, SoE has to suck in every single area and be terrible businesspeople in every way, so the boxes of DIGITAL CARDS are $100. I swear to god it's like if SoE doesn't fail at everything, the world will end.

Not to defend either company, but tons of people actually pay higher than retail prices for MTGO packs. So it's not like Sony is breaking ground there.

I liked EQ LoN.

I bought about $50 worth of cards and didn't get shit. Then eventually took to buying boosters and such in game for plat.

Got a naggy and a bunch of other crap and walked away with like $500 bucks =O

But having the card game enable limited content is bull imo.

The difference is that you can redeem MTGO packs (in the form of completed sets) for the real cards. Doing so removes them from your eCollection. There are also plenty of places where you can buy MTGO packs for less than MSRP. Last I checked you could get them for $2 a piece (though this was months ago).

LoN cards stay electronic.

You're limited as to what sets you can redeem on MODO, so many of the cards on there you can't redeem and are electronic only as well.

From the MTGO wiki, which seems fairly up to date:

"Wizards of the Coast allows collectors who have assembled a full set of digital cards to exchange them for a factory set of printed cards. Regular cards and foils cannot be mixed. Each set is eligible for a period of up to 4 years after the online release."

So yes there are some stipulations and limitations. Still 4 years to cash out is pretty decent.

oh its not actually in game yet, there is just a broken key quest that leads nowhere while sony claims it is working a intended. 3 patches from now they will fix the quest and it will be completely different than the one they said was working currently.

Oh almost forgot, the main drop in the zone, is cloth gloves and after you kill the final boss the cloth gloves will never drop again.
