Question regarding Icecrown Radiance:

If bosses will now hit more often but for less each hit, does block value increase as a tanking stat? The percentage of total damage mitigated by block would increase if the per-hit damage decreases. Is this a buff for warriors/pallys, or is it still such a small percentage that its in the noise?

Related question: against a single target can a bear crit enough to have their savage defense up for every incoming boss hit?

Do we know enough yet from the PTR about how bosses are hitting to answer these?

the consensus I got from EJ is that block goes from worthless to nearly worthless given the change, bosses are still going to hit like trucks, just more often (not anub heroic truck, but still like a pick up)

I see someone's not a leatherworker. (yeah, I'm a little bitter about having a super-hard hitting boss where a specific profession takes 20% less damage)

Leatherworking's "cool trick" (like installing sockets in places where they weren't before for blacksmithing or Dragon's Eye gems with tons of extra stats for JC) is turbo-powered bracer enchants. These include the various magic resists, so a Leatherworking tank can get higher resist values than others.

No. Bosses will not hit for 'much' less than they do now. The goal is to give you a constant, reliable rape train, rather than a periodic rape train. Block value is no more or less valuable to Warriors and Paladins in Icecrown than it is in pre-Anub ToC. That is to say, a block set beyond ilvl 226 does not exist, so it's pointless theorycrafting.

Bears don't crit enough to block every hit. Paw block has its own strengths that allow it to pull ahead in certain situations, however.

For Paladins there might be a block set. Anub's adds plowing through Holy Shield is pretty unique and there was plenty of +BV in Coliseum, it'll only take 2-4 shield block rating items out of Icecrown to cap again.

I've got a couple of day 1 accounts. I'm a goddamned shoe in, if I say so myself.

I don't like Jewelcrafting

Being able to disenchant my own olde BoP crap when I get upgrades is great for enchanting but compared to Leatherworking or Jewelcrafting for profession-specific raiding perks it falls very short. If I dropped enchanting for JC I'd get an extra 42def for Anub at the expense of... nothing (60sta which is useless), raid-power wise. 42def is perhaps 1% avoidance, I can convert that to hit rating easily with gemming, it's a fucking huge buff for that fight where tanks have to scrape every bit of avoidance and block value from what's available to them.

Jewelcrafting gets its own daily, enchanting gets no such thing. Now items can be traded in 5mans meaning enchanters are under a moral obligation to disenchant items other people won, and in the 3.3 cross-realm LFG system there's a new rolling system for enchanters to disenchant items for other people. Is there a point for this profession other than a source of abyss crystals each gear reset (2.4, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3) ?

[edit] So all of that was a bit out of the blue. Erm, I was initially writing a post wondering why Warrior Critical Block and what implications that has with Icecrown Radiance enacted, at the same time musing the sparsity of block-heavy gear. No CC gear has block rating on it. I still expect hard-hitting bosses in Icecrown to hit for NRB-enraged levels, boss hitting for 35k then no worries put a paladin or druid in front of it, hope the healers don't go OOM.

I'd have to think there are thousands of day one accounts currently active; those servers were pretty damn hammered on day one, if you recall. Ran the math and 75% of the people I know with day one accounts are currently active; who knows what date they pulled for the contest.

(I'm at 12:06. Why did I stop for lunch before installing!)
