The answer to the question is timing. There is a right time and a place based on launch dates, to release the information, both IP and games. That's why you pay people that know how to do it, to do it. There is a window between announcing anything and actually getting your hands on that is better than others, trying to figure that out is a science in itself. As I've stated before, if it was up to me I'd tell it all, yesterday. That's just not the smart thing to do, even I can admit that. The thing I will tell you is that once we start rolling that ball we'll have a plan in place to keep that ball rolling and keep stuff flowing, IP and games wise. It's coming, not as quick as I'd like, but it's coming, and when it does then we'll be able to talk about more substance and more 'stuff' than we are or can right now.

| Please make an mmo that goes something like this, Curt: EVE + WoW + City Building. Huge flagships that transport guilds from planet to planet. Planets have resources scattered around that must be harvested and secured. Ship vs Ship combat with the ability to board and storm flagships. "Holodeck" type instances onboard these transports. Ability to build bases (including shops/housing) on planets and defend them from npc indigenous life and pc invaders. Throw in some Steampunk, 2-3 planets at launch with a couple of planets and ships added every expansion, one server for all players, and you've made my dream MMO. |

| I am sad to say but I am pumped about this game more then I should expecially since nothing has been released about it yet. Maybe it is just the ideals that have been tossed around in the old thread or the concept art that reminded me alot of that "Walt Disney Magic". If an MMO could capture that type of feeling for a game i think it would be amazing to play. Not completely realistic but ground in reality where stuff like magic, dragons etc were every day things like cars and assholes on the internet are like for us today. The most fun I had was when my two brothers, myself and about 6 real life friends started a guild at EQ2 release and cleared shit until after DoF. It is nice to get going from the start of an MMO as it sets a level playing field for alot of people. Now most of us are just doing our own thing i.e. playing DotA, Magic, some went back to FFXI etc. We are looking for "THE MMO" that finally interests us all again to all play together and have fun. Something that has meaningful group encounters, raiding, and fun "off-peak" activities. We tried WAR and that only lasted for about a month or so. I am sure i speak for others in that alot of oldschool MMO gamers are biding their time waiting for the great 3rd generation MMO. Now does that mean it will be KotoR, Copernicus, FFXIV, some other one, or none at all, remain to be seen. The most fun I had in an MMO was when the guild finally took down Sunchild in EQ2 while the whole guild was on the ground dead and our cleric(a 36 year old mother of 3) casting the final nuke to drop him. When that happened Vent exploded and was a great sense of accomplishment for us. Keep in mind this was a guild that was the 16-25 "uber dude" guild but an older age guild with people who actually worked 40+ hours a week. Totally off topic but how the hell did people end up killing that damn Frog in that zone? You know the one that ran all over the place and just raped face. I am too lazy to look it up. |

+107 Internets | Holy crap did that other thread get nuts. Haha. Now I have to pull out the ytmnd I made for the Vanguard threads: YTMND - I take notes. Anyway, until there is some actual information about this game, I can't really get too excited. Looking forward to the updates though. |

| Best post ever, this guy already knows what page 350 will look like. Ok folks, it's now a few days from the 3-year anniversary of the first 38 studios thread (Have you decided how to celebrate?). And yet we still have less information than a Derek Smart convention. And I'm quickly becoming convinced Battlecruiser will be finished first. Personally, I plan on celebrating your milestone by playing my beta copy of Renegade 2 (bonus points for real gamers that get the reference) More than happy to chime in calm and professionally when there's you know...something to talk about. I said that 3 years ago, and lo and behold we're still at the exact same spot but with a shiny new thread. I figured I'd be the first of many to repeat myself. Because there's nothing I love better than a 2nd god-damned thread on "MMO Philosophy for Pedantic Provential Potential Players", hosted by a guy that clearly knows less about MMO's than my saggy right nut. Seriously Curt, if your folks can make a decent game, great. Let them sing it on your company boards that clearly we'll all come in droves to read when there's something to talk about. But instead you feel the desperate need to hijack the discussions on real tangible MMO's on this board daily by talking about theory. We've moved on from that. Hell some of the original noows posters are working on their 2nd MMO! But back to the point, there's no post in any of your threads that couldn't actually go into another thread, or the development board. You know "development", for shit that doesn't exist yet, as opposed to this board for MMO's that do. But we both know where it really belongs. I will say one positive thing. You remind me of me when at 10 years old when a buddy of mine convinced me we could build a Macross mech just like the one Rick Hunter flew, but even better! We sat around making designs and patting ourselves on the backs. Most children go through this phase. Point is, make something, make anything. It's far better to create failures that you can actually learn something from, than to dream up a debut that wastes countless peoples time. Nuff said. Enjoy your thread. Just like 3-years ago when the first thread appeared I'll be back in another 36 months to see if it's gone beyond talk. That is assuming you haven't gotten bored toying around with this industry and it's hard workers, and start being a family man, or a painter, a gay biker, or whatever. |
