+1 Internets | Hmm free play for a month. Re-installing. See what's changed. Edit: Guess, not , wont run on Vista or Windows 7, even with all the compatibility changes, either crashes right after hitting play, or right after loading sanctuary. oh well. Like said above, nothing will beat the experience of beta/launch of days on end bridge battles, or all 3 factions trying to take one base for hours on end. The scale of the battles and the amount of people involved was just insane. First time I saw a OS, i just stood there looking up into it, like wtf is that ? and Died promptly after with about 20 of my fellows ![]() Last edited by Cinge; 07-28-2009 at 04:13 PM.. |

several games i thought where going to be planetside replacements but so far all seemed to fall very short. just like so many people want to play old world EQ again. i would love to have a pre core combat planetside server.

| Installed it as well and got it running on Vista (sort of stable, 1 crash in 3 days). Certainly feels good to play again, to bad there wont be a PS2. Population seems to be alright with only 2 servers now, but it's still not as massive as it once was. A lot of players will probably drop again once the free play is over, just leave it free to play ![]() |

| Currently there is some action on Werner because of the free reactivation. The game is still fun to play even though the ballance issues are obvious and there aren't those full scale battles anymore, so the experience isn't quite the same. What I find interesting is the SoE subscription philosophy on this game. They raised the price from $12.99 to §14.99 back in 2007. The game doesn't run cleanly under Vista (needs win95/98 compatibility mode), there haven't been any major updates for years and the playerbase is shrinking constantly. I mean it is obvious that they don't expect new customers, so they decided to milk the old ones to death, but is this really the best option? I know for a fact that there are players who would play the game if it was cheaper. Most people are simply refusing to pay 1st class subscription rates for a game that is way over the peak. I would pay as much as $ 4.99/month to play this game, alternatively I would buy a lifetime sub for some reasonable price. In terms of profit, that's certainly better than nothing for SoE. Nothing is unfortunately all they'll get from me once the free time runs out and they don't change their pollicy on this issue.

There is a reason that all the F2P games that make it offer useful stuff for really really cheap. Like Travian... it'd take me 3-4 months to blow through $60 worth of gold. However, the benefits were tangible and each time I activated a "cool thing" it'd only cost me like a nickel which made it really easy to justify. Oh well, I guess its a good thing though as it keeps me from being interested in the premium sub or any of the "micro" transactions.

| Yes, it is actually amazing how many poor marketing decisions they make. Since I am sure that they get their basic math on how to determine the price right, the quality of the surveys that they base their decisions on must be abysmal.

+3 Internets | Doesn't run for me alas, in vista64. It's a real crash without all the compatability stuff, trying to do a fld from a bad spot of memory, with compat stuff on it's an assertion. Skipping around the assert it crashes in a function that is passed a struct and tries to grab something 44 bytes in, then does a zero extended load of a couple regs maybe for a 64 bit time value? After that is a bunch of float math that looks like a plane ray intersections maybe, couple vector subtracts and a dot product. I dunno. edit oops, me stupid, had it set to xp instead of 98 ^_^ Last edited by Kharza-kzad; 07-29-2009 at 05:22 AM.. |

| Agree. Next to EQ, I did many days worth of played game time LANing it up with my good friends, all on a TS/Ventrilo server with a hundred others. Definently love PS. I personally wish they'd kill it off. As much as it would hurt to see, I feel they should get a Planetside 2 going...Sadly, nothing has ever been mentioned... |

Personally I agree with you. A game that isn't even compatible with Vista shouldn't cost as much as a regular WoW subscription, especially since the battles - which is what you are paying for after all - are crippled due to low playerbase.
