While we're actually having a DAoC discussion, does anybody know where I could obtain a copy of the soundtrack? There was some really good, moody atmospheric type stuff in the game and I'd love to give it a listen for nostalgic purposes, but I never did manage to find a copy of it. There were a few sound files in the game directory, but mostly just minor stuff.

Amazon.com: Dark Age of Camelot: A Musical Journey Through the Realms of Hibernia, Midgard and Albion: Various Artists: Music

Not too expensive. You may be able to dowload the tracks somewhere though.

Hm, I had no idea that existed. It doesn't actually contain the ingame music though it seems, rather stuff that was written seperately as an accompaniment.

Mm, when I read the customer reviews it seemed to contain both scores from the game itself as well as new tracks.
This is a quote:

The sweeping score of that magnificent game is captured & preserved verbatim on CD for your own personal enjoyment. Also included are some songs that are inspired by the game, which lend a very period-feel to the disc.
Did you sample all of the tracks? It could be that the actual in-game scores were re-arranged so that you are not hearing them as you dis in-game. But I could be wrong, I do not remember any music of DAoC tbh. DId DAoC use mp3 or MIDI? Or was the music incorporated into some big file that you could not access?

Anyway, I love fiddling with in-game scores, I'll dig up my old DAoC disc and see what's on there.

EDIT: FOund my old CD and there is like 50 mp3 files on there, want me to zip em up and post them? Here's an example of what I found on the cd: http://www.xs4all.nl/~treesong/midgardtown1.mp3

Yeah the only one that is from the game itself is the Main Title. The rest are all independant stuff.

I actually just dug out my old CD (nostalgiagasm!) and found the tracks you're talking about. Sadly the SI CD doesn't have an equivelant. Any idea how I could extract or locate them from the SI CD?

There was one track in particular that I remember vividly (and can still hum to this day) that played in certain towns in the SI expansion.

Ah, unfortunately I never bought any expansions, I already stopped playing then. I did a google search for DAoC music but that did not turn up much other then that amazon cd. I would ask on a DAoC forum(Mythic itself or Vault, I think that had a big DAoC forum), there's always a few people that are really into the music of their favorite MMO(I am for EQ!) and they might know of any archives of that music circling the web, or even know how to extract the music from the SI cd.

Yeah I'll go back to VN and ask there, I'm sure there's still a community of sorts there.

Hell yes, Diablo. Have not heard that a LONG time. Something sad and lonely about that song.

Crazy, when you posted those I felt like this should be in there:

YouTube - The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion theme

Weird how that music already feels "classic".

So do I actually. Oblivion seemed very bland and lifeless, Morrowind had a lot more character and variety to it. The whole issue with the world scaling as you levelled sucked to, basically robbed the game of any sense of progression.

The music you guys are looking for is likely the music that was produced by the game's random ambient music system:

"New Ambient Music Soundtrack
Shrouded Isles has much more that just graphical changes - there's also an entirely new ambient music system featured in Shrouded Isles that may turn out to be revolutionary in its implementation - we've taken our random ambient sound generation system and applied it to music, resulting in almost totally random music playing in the background. The music is written in a multi-track format so that different bits and pieces of it can be applied randomly together in a way that is not intrusive, but adds life and atmosphere to the game. Our sound engineer implemented this music it so that the game plays different pieces of ambient music depending on what zone you are in, the time of day, and other factors as well. So, as you travel across the world of Shrouded Isles, you'll hear different random tracks playing all the time, depending on your location and time. It's a really neat system that provides a real sense of atmosphere as you are playing - almost like a movie soundtrack.
