I miss the glory days of playing a scout just after release. You were damned near invincible if you played conservatively and took the time to farm up a set of that studded leather with something like 50% slash resist on it.

I still remember one day when I was sloppy and got killed by a druid and he ran to post on VN like it was the greatest accomplishment in the history of gaming. That's how rare it was for a scout to get killed, even in the middle of a zerg on zerg battle it just didn't happen.

Good times, but like others have said, I'm sure the people I killed over and over who had no hope of getting even didn't feel that way.

I've been playing on the Devon cluster for the last month or so, mostly because a friend's been asking me to (daoc was his first mmo) and I don't play anything else atm. I have to say it's worse than I remember it to be. I can't think of anything they actually made right in this game. Also, whoever said he hit 50 in 5 hours played is exaggerating. The only difference from before afaik is that you get bonus exp (ie 2x in RvR zones) in certain places.

Dear World of Warcraft player, we appreciate your suggestion that we add housing to the game. This has been a very popular request in recent years, however we have no plans to do so at this time. However, we may be revamping certain aspects of the game once patch 3.2 is released, and housing will be looked at at that time. In the meantime, we hope you'll be happy with the 35 new arena maps that we've added, and the new mage frost armor icon. Thank you for your time, Blizzard.

I certainly wouldn't recommend picking this up if you haven't played it before, or especially if you don't have any level 50s lying around since you won't be able to "/level" yourself up to 20 right away.

And yes, that "5 days /played" guy was either mistaken or lying. If you have to start with nothing at level one, you'll be a solid month of casual play-time getting to level 50. By that time Aion will be out, which will leave absolutely no reason whatsoever to play DAoC. If you're not on one of the "l33t 8-man" RvR teams (not to mention the weeks to get your character fully geared/ML'd/RA'd/etc. out), you're nothing more than a free kill in this game anyways, so you're probably better off just goofing off in some other game until something better comes along.

Besides, we want Mythic to *DIE SCREAMING HORRIBLY* so some other company can pick up the Warhammer IP. No sense giving them any more money.

They really dumbed down TOA. You can get pretty much every artifact you want in a night, and they are pretty easy to level. You can also buy ML levels and artifacts with bounty points gained through RvR, so you don't even have to PVE at all if you don't want to.

I had more fun running on the classic servers for that first few years they were out than I have in any other game or time. There was a ton of PvP/RvR to do for varying playstyles. 8 man, zerg sieging (DAOC siege was so much better than war's) , and small group or solo stealthing. Even soloing on a visible was doable. They also did a pretty amazing job of class balance by that time given the sheer number of different classes. Some sucked in groups but did well solo, some sucked solo but excelled in groups. Not every class was good at everything, and people accepted it.

I have some extra accounts I might be willing to part with. Mostly classic server characters, but plenty of BP's to buy TOA gear/ML's.

So is the origins server idea dead now? I like this game alot but I really can't stand the crazy amount of cc. I mostly played classic battlegrounds (thidranki and molvik) because the stuns only last a couple seconds there.

I dunno, I guess I like to actually control my character in a fight instead of standing around with zzzz over my head for a minute.

The only bad thing about the battlegrounds was that some classes hit a power peak at 24 and 39, mainly archers. I played a ranger most recently and it made me sick it was so easy. I could pick a caster off from a full group and just run off. Usually 2 shots but occasionally one. I felt bad.

My skald probably has close to a million BP back from when they were worthless.

Ah, raping newbs and farming RP cows on Percival, that will forever be my fondest memory of MMOs, at the rate they're going now.

Sorry, but that's bullshit. Unless they've actually nerfed levelling (which I doubt), my brother and I rerolled with fresh accounts a year or two back and were 50 inside a week of fairly relaxed play. ToA is a joke as well, didn't they make it so you can buy artis in RvR now?

I investigated the bounty point stuff. I had done quite a few master level raids back in the early days, but I respecced from ... brawler or something? To perfector as there was little point in the melee based one since I usually just got stunned and one rounded by a savage if I tried to melee.

The perfector line has power fountains and cures and such.

Anyway I bought up the missing parts I had from 2 and 3 and 4, but I needed XP to raise from 2 to 3. There were scrolls for master level experience for ... I think 15 and 100 bounty points. I tried one of the 15's and it didn't move my bar at all, so I just went out to Volcanus and killed some of those siam-he stargate looking fellows for an hour or so and went up to 3.

I saw the encounter credit vendor for artifacts, but I am not sure if they sell the actual artifacts there. I'm still loaded down with all the ones I want from the old days though.

Are artifacts even worth bothering with though? There have been quite a few expansions since then. Seems like they would be obsolete. I know when I built my TOA template I had a hard time maxing out everything I wanted mixing in so many artifacts (I'm using 7).

Yes, sorry, that "5 days" should have been the "5 hours" that somebody posted here (I'm assuming as a mistake). In any event, somebody starting this game from scratch at level one, playing 2-4 hours per night for ~5 days per week will definitely take a month to get to level 50. I just leveled a character from 42-50 and it took a week at that rate, using "/freelevel" every couple of days.

But, as I said, don't bother. Now that everybody knows the game is near the end, nobody gives a shit about getting caught cheating. Running around the frontier is a set of "amazing coincidences" of enemy gank groups running up behind you even in the most remote locations (hello "radar" hacks, speed hacks, etc.).

I had so much fun playing DAoC back in the say. I even didn't hate ToA as much as everyone else seemed to. In fact ToA made me rich as fuck. I had a full mana Enchanter with a 50 buffbot so I'd farm those scrolls all the time.

I even had a lower level buffbot with a nightshade that was in that (I think) level 40-45 PvP ground.

Last I recalled 5days /played = 5X24 hours = 120hours 120 hours / 4 hours played a day = 30 days... you guys need to either get better at math or L2Read...

Sounds like the pre ToA days, frankly.
